Worth the Risk by K Bromberg ~ Sarah A’s Review

Worth the Risk, an all-new, sexy standalone about taking chances and finding love when it’s least expected, from New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg, is available now!

This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.

It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.

But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?

Unfortunately, he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.

But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiseled abs and killer smiles.

But he got to me. They got to me. Him and his son and their messy, crazy life.  But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.

And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?

Hot, jaded, single dad? Check.  Stuck-up, entitled, heiress?  Check.  Unwarranted animosity because of past interactions and connections?  Check.  Lots of learning, growing, and overcoming expectations? Check.  Worth the Risk was a fascinating take on an enemies-to-lovers romance.

Grayson Malone was the brother whose story I was most looking forward to.  There’s always something about a single dad whose complete devotion to his child is so evident in every decision he makes, that calls to me.  Add that to the melancholy air about him and how could I not love him?  After reading his story and finding out what had made him the way he was, I was completely devoted to Grayson.  Even when he was being a judgmental jerkface.

I kinda wanted hate Sidney, for the same reasons Grayson did, but that first chapter?  I couldn’t.  Despite what she was on the outside, what her father thought she was, who she thought she was, sometimes, what she did for her friend proved the truth of who she was.  Watching her come into her own and discover that she was stronger, better, more compassionate than she had given herself credit for was heartwarming.

Sidney and Grayson’s connection grew on me just as it did on them.  I could feel the tension from their first interaction, but I couldn’t discern if it was derived from hate or chemistry.  Slowly that spark grew into a tangible thing, every time they were together, there was a current powering each touch, every glance, every word they shared.  I lived for the moment when it all exploded, and they could no longer resist the pull.  The hatred may have still been a defining force between them, but there is a reason people say there is a fine line between love and hate.

Luke was the shining star of this book.  If it weren’t for that sweet boy, there would be no Sidney and Grayson.  If it weren’t for his innocent coaxing and matchmaking, there is a good chance Sidney and Grayson would have let their pride get in the way of a truly magnificent relationship.  And the love both Grayson and (eventually) Sidney had for the boy completed them.  They both seemed to care so deeply, and in an all-consuming way, they needed something to temper that kind of overwhelming love.

Worth the Risk is the third book in K Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes series.  The series follows the Malone brothers, with each book being about a different brother.  This is the third and final brother’s story, but there will be another book, Control, about a family friend.  It is not necessary to read the first two books, Cuffed and Combust, to understand this book.  Worth the Risk is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Sidney and Grayson.

K. Bromberg writes fun, flirty, heartwarming contemporary romance. I have found each book I’ve read by her to be well-written and compelling. I love the strength of her heroines and how flawed each of her characters is, they all feel completely unique while still having the same ribbons of strength running through them.

Rebel by Lauren Lovell ~ COVER REVEAL

Rebel, an all-new standalone contemporary Romance by Lauren Lovell (LP LOVELL) is releasing June 7th!

I’m Blake McQueen, daughter of Miles McQueen: businessman, politician, all around upstanding member of the community.

I’m told that name means something, but well, I’ve pretty much doused it in petrol, set it on fire, and taken a shit on it for good measure. I like to think of myself as a walking middle finger.

My name is now synonymous with all forms of debauchery. I have to read the newspaper most mornings just to see where I was last night and my state of inebriation.

Judge me all you like, love me, hate me. I don’t care.

Life’s a party and you should never stop dancing.

But even the sweetest of highs has it’s low. There is only so high you can go before you fall, and fall I did, right into the arms of the only man that could possibly stop me from crashing and burning. I’ve always been untouchable. I’ve never cared enough to be touchable. Until now.

Rebellion never felt so good.

Lauren Lovell is an indie author from England. She suffers from a total lack of brain to mouth filter and is the friend you have to explain before you introduce her to anyone, and apologize for afterwards.
She’s a self-confessed shameless pervert, who may be suffering from slight peen envy.

Breathe by Carly Phillips ~ Sarah A’s Review

Breathe, an all-new second chance romance from Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips is available now!

Fall in love with the Wards…

From troubled teen to successful general contractor, Jake Nichols turned his life around from his time in foster care. Divorced and single, he juggles his time between his daughter and his work. Next on his agenda, a new project that is his chance to prove his worth at the job he loves. Except he never anticipates that the only girl he’s ever loved and lost as a teen is now a grown and beautiful woman in charge of the project.

Phoebe Ward has survived and conquered a painful past that includes foster care and becoming a teenaged mom. She wants nothing more than to focus on the present but it’s hard when she looks into the eyes of her son, knowing she’s tried and failed to find his father. She’s resigned herself to raising him alone with the help of her family… Until a client meeting brings her face to face with her first love. A boy… now a sexy man she thought she’d never see again … and the father of her child.

So many years have gone by and both of their lives have changed drastically. Will they be able to put the past behind them and find the second chance they both deserve?

Amazon | B&N | iBooks | Kobo | GooglePlay

Breathe was a sweet little romance.  I couldn’t put it down and finished the entire thing before lunch.  My heart ached for Phoebe and Jake from the start, and after finding out what their histories were like, it broke for them.  Books about people who have been in the foster care system always pull at my heartstrings and this one was a double-whammy.

I was astonished by Phoebe’s strength, especially when I found out her backstory.  She’s suffered so much heartbreak and loss in her short life, and she was still an amazing mom who never hesitated to put her son first and do whatever she needed to protect and provide for him.  Phoebe continually impressed me with her resilience when faced with challenges, even when the fears developed by her past reared their ugly heads.

Jake was wonderful.  I mean to the point of being the perfect man wonderful.  He was protective and understanding.  He was loving and patient.  He’d been to hell and back and still managed to make a success of himself and become a stellar father.  At every turn, I was impressed by his maturity and level-headedness.

Though the conflict was minimal in Breathe and somewhat predictable, it never felt stagnant.  There was so much to learn about Phoebe and Jake’s individual pasts, history together, and then getting reacquainted after so many years, the lack of action only served to heighten the importance of their connection and what they meant to one another.

Breathe is the second book in Carly Phillips’ Rosewood Bay series.  These books can be read as standalones, I haven’t read the first book, Fearless, and had no problems understanding exactly what was going on in this book.  I did find myself dying to read that book and will definitely be revisiting that first book before I read the third book, Freed.  Breathe is written in limited third-person perspective, alternatively following Phoebe and Jake’s thoughts.

I discovered Carly Phillips as part of a crossover event for one of my favorite authors, and I was so impressed with her writing, I knew I needed to consume anything of hers I could get my hands on.  Breathe delivered fabulously.  I loved the characters, the plot was so sweet, and the pacing was spot on.

“Are you my guardian?” she quipped, trying to keep things light as she tipped her head slightly, studying his tight, serious expression.

“I want to be.” His voice was serious as hell. His tone rubbed her in the most intimate way, her body swaying toward him.

“Jake.” He reached out a hand to cup her face, his calloused fingertips rough against her skin. So intense were his features, so erotic was his touch, his protectiveness cloaking her in heat. Her nipples even puckered into tight points of need.

“If I had my way, nobody would be able to take advantage of you, because they’d have to go through me in order to get to you.” Her face warmed at his words.

“That’s sweet of you to say.”

“I’m not feeling very sweet. In fact, I’m feeling pretty damned protective.” He was, and she liked it. A lot. His fingers skimmed her cheek as he spoke.

“I was lucky enough to find you again. I want a chance to see what could be between us,” he said, taking her off guard. But God, she wanted that, too.

Despite her brain telling her they needed to tread carefully, that they had a little boy to protect, her traitorous heart still wanted more. His blue gaze bored into hers, causing her heart to pound hard in her chest.

“I know things are complicated right now, but how many people get second chances?”

“Not many,” she agreed, knowing how lucky they were.

“So wouldn’t we be foolish to waste the opportunity?”

“Hello?” Phoebe called out.
“In here!” a masculine voice said, sounding like it came from the far side of the house.
She followed the sound and noticed a man talking on the phone, his back to her. He was tall, well built, muscles defined, as she took him in from behind. And what a behind he had, a tight ass in his faded jeans.

She ogled the sight shamelessly, her gaze traveling up his lean waist and broad shoulders. His dark hair was short and the jet-black color she preferred on a man. He wore a light blue button-down, sleeves rolled up, revealing sexy forearms.

And then he turned to meet her gaze, giving her one raised finger to indicate he needed another minute on the phone. Except she wasn’t paying attention to the gesture, because one look at that handsome face, more mature than she remembered but just as good-looking, and she froze.

Vivid blue eyes widened at the sight of her in return.

She wasn’t just looking at a stranger, she was staring into the shocked eyes of her son’s father, a man she hadn’t seen since before she found out she was pregnant.

“Jake?” she whispered, unable to comprehend the fact that she was standing in the same room with her first love. Her first everything.

But trouble was nothing new.
Just ask his crazy sisters or any of his friends, and they’d be the first to tell you:
If there was a bad decision to be made, Robbie always had a knack for making it.

NEW RELEASE!! Hold Me by LP Lovell ~ Sarah A’s Review

I’m a former slave. The sister of death. Collateral.

He’s a bad man. A cartel boss— and my everything. I thought I was done being someone’s toy, but I was so very wrong. Safety is nothing more than a premise in my world, and it seems my own sister can’t be trusted. Loyalties will be tested, and even my big bad wolf might not be able to save me this time.

A priceless pawn. A knight in blood stained armor. A love worthy of any sacrifice.

Hate me or hold me?

 Amazon US | Amazon UNIVERSAL

Hold Me was as heartbreaking as it was an intense rush of carefully calculated suspense.  This book is full of secrets, schemes, and sacrifice.  The idea of putting everything you’ve ever wanted or needed on the line for love was the backbone of the story and informed every aspect of the decisions each character made.

Hold Me is the second book in LP Lovell’s Collateral series.  This book can not be read as a stand-alone, the first book in the series, Hate Me, begins Anna and Rafael’s journey and it must be read first to understand what is going on in Hold Me.  This series will be continued into a third book.  Hold Me is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Anna and Rafael.

Again, the backdrop of Mexican cartels along with the Italian and Russian mafias gave a morbid yet engrossing backdrop for Anna and Rafael’s story.  The plot was teeming with subterfuge, precarious alliances, and violence.  I loved how it all interplayed with the development of Anna and Rafael’s relationship.

If I thought Anna was heartbroken and destroyed in Hate Me, it was nothing compared to what she went through in this book.  Her storyline devastated me in this book.  I ached for her, for what she lost, for what she endured, for what she resorted to, so she could feel again.  Her growth, in spite of everything, was impressive and I only hope she’s able to regain enough of what she’s lost to heal, again.

Rafael was, once again, an enigma.  The tenderness and care with which he treats Anna in complete opposition from the violence and cunning he bestows on nearly everyone else he interacts with.   While I did feel like I had a better grasp on his character and motivations, I would still like to see more of what shaped him into the paradoxical person he is.

I haven’t read the series these books have spun off from, but from the bit we got to see of the hero and heroine from that duet, I know I need to read it soon.  Una and Nero were fascinating, and their dynamic seems unusual, I can’t wait to see what they’re all about.  Not having read this series first has not adversely affected my enjoyment of the Collateral series in any way, it has only heightened my desire to read the Kiss of Death series.

LP Lovell knows how to write about the seedy underworld.  She has layered all the most vile and savage things in the world and turned it into a fascinating kaleidoscope through which to experience an all-consuming love story.  I was devastated by how this installment of Anna and Rafael’s story ended, and I can barely contain my desire to get the next part of their story.

Anna

I am a whore. A slave. A possession. I accepted my fate long ago, but fate is not done with me yet. Freedom is so close I can almost taste it, only to have it snatched away under the guise of protection. A guilded cage is still a cage. Friend or foe? Saviour or oppressor? Rafael D’Cruze is a bad man. I hate him, so why do I feel safe with him?

Rafael

She’s a favour. Collateral. A pretty slave. I have no interest in her beyond keeping her alive for the man who now owns her. And yet…I’m fascinated by the little Russian. There is no room for weakness in my world, but it appears the delicate rose has steel petals. I’m willing to bleed for a willing touch, a trusting glance…

A broken little bird. The big bad wolf. A longing that could heal or destroy.

Hate me or hold me?
