REVIEW AND TOP RECOMMENDATION – Speakeasy by Sarina Bowen

Sometimes you fall for Mr. Right. And sometimes for Mr. Right Now…

May
Did you hear the one about the girl who walks into a bar and catches her live-in lover kissing someone else? No? You’re the only one in town who missed it.

Luckily Alec is there to wrap me up in strong arms and carry me out the door before things get too ugly. And that’s not all Alec is good at. Our unexpected chemistry makes him the perfect rebound guy.

Alec
I should know better than to hook up with my rival’s little sister, but the fiery look in May’s eyes really turns my crank. She needs cheering up, and I’m just the guy for the job.

It’s not like I’ll fall in love. Not even after a string of scorching hot trysts, and the realization that we’re good at the same things: wild nights and familial disappointment. I don’t do love, never have, never will. So this is the perfect arrangement, for both of us.

Nobody would approve, but nobody has to know…

Whitney’s Five Star Review

Gah!  Just take my heart and hand it to Alec.  I thought grumpy Griff was my favorite True North guy. Until now.
Sarina is one of my top authors and I will read anything she writes.  But Speakeasy has a spot in my Top Favorite Sarina Books (which is quite impressive, I assure you).  We’ve met Alec in previous books and although he is kind of what expected, he’s so much more.  He’s silly, supportive, serious when needed, a bit wounded, and sooooo sexy.
May is coming off a bad breakup with her girlfriend and there is definitely some back and forth here about her sexuality. Not in the sense that she is confused.  She identifies as bi but it’s been a long time since she dated a guy so of course there is some hesitation on her part and on Alec’s as well.
The friends with benefits vibe lasts for a while but you can see them getting more and more entangled emotionally. I loved every minute of their love story and wish I could read it again for the first time.
Sarina weaves a fresh story with lots of great characters every time but it at the top of her game with Speakeasy.  I do recommend you read the series in order if you want to read them all as it gives great insight into character development.  The descriptions of locations, buildings, etc make feel like I’m living in the story.  I have zero complaints.
Highly recommended!

Sarina Bowen has a hot m/m romance, Goodbye Forever.  This was previously published under another title but has been rebranded.  Check out all the details below.  –XOXO, Whitney

goodbye-paradise-cover

Synopsis

Most people called it a cult. But for twenty years, Josh and Caleb called it home.

In Paradise, there is no television. No fast food. Just long hours of farm work and prayer on a dusty Wyoming ranch, and nights in a crowded bunkhouse. The boys of the Compound are kept far from the sinners’ world.

But Joshua doesn’t need temptation to sin. His whole life, he’s wanted his best friend, Caleb. By day they work side by side. Only when Josh closes his eyes at night can they be together the way he craves.

It can never be. And his survival depends on keeping his terrible desires secret.

Caleb has always protected Josh against the worst of the bullying at the Compound. But he has secrets of his own, and a plan to get away — until it all backfires.

Josh finds himself homeless in a world that doesn’t want him. Can Caleb find him in time? And will they find a place of safety, where he can admit to Josh how he really feels?

Warning: Contains a hot male/male romance, copious instances of taking the Lord’s name in vain, and love against the kitchen counter. This book was previously released under the title: In Front of God & Everyone.

Whitney’s 4.5 Star Review

Josh and Caleb against the world….

Gah!  All the feels people.  For those who enjoy m/m romance, this book will be right up your alley.  A truly sweet romance with a side of sexy thrown in, I really enjoyed this book.
Growing up in a cult is tough on everyone, but especially for Josh. Without a family to protect him, he’s grown up thinking he is weaker than everyone else and worthless.  But his best friend, Caleb, knows better.  When Joshua is kicked out of ‘Paradise’, Caleb quickly joins him and together they embark on a difficult and at times, dangerous journey to find a better life.
They are both cautious and Josh especially struggles with his feelings towards Caleb, believing them to be sinful.  He is by far the quieter and least adventurous of the two.  Caleb is a bit more carefree and easy going.  They really do compliment each other well and I adored watching them finally acknowledge their feelings for each other.
I don’t want to spoil any of the storyline but their journey is one of love, hope and acceptance.  If you’ve read Sarina’s other books you may notice some cult references that tie in with the True North series but it’s very loose and you don’t have to read those first.  Caleb and Josh are such nice guys and remain so hopeful despite their circumstances and it was wonderful to watch their personalities evolve once they are out from under the rule of their cult.
The only thing keeping this from being a full five stars was that it seemed to move just a tad slow in some places.  But overall, I loved it and highly recommend.

Questions & Answers from the Author:

Q. How can readers be sure they didn’t read these books before?

A. The previous edition of Goodbye Paradise was titled In Front of God & Everyone. I had to change the title because the religious overtones of the old title led a few readers to believe that this was a religious book. (Spoiler: it’s not!) To prevent confusion, I’ve made the book’s description almost identical to the old one. The setting is rather unique, and I doubt that many readers will forget they’ve read an LGBTQ romance that begins in a cult…

Q. This plot reminds me of Zach’s upbringing in Keepsake. Did Josh & Caleb leave the same cult as Zach?

A. Yes! Same setting, different characters, different story. Zach didn’t trust that he was lovable. Caleb and Josh, on the other hand, are afraid to admit their love. Same origin, different journeys.

Q. Will these books be up for pre-order?

A. Yes—in early to mid March.

Q. And what about Goodreads?

A. The book will be listed at Goodreads. But it’s entirely possible that the fervent Goodreads librarians will lump the new title in with the old one. Or not? Authors can’t really control much of what happens on that platform. But we shall persevere!

Q. What else is in your pipeline?

A. On May 2, Pipe Dreams (Brooklyn Bruisers #3) will publish! You can always stay up to date with new releases and publicity contacts at www.sarinabowen.com//publication-schedule/

SPOTLIGHT REVIEW – Good Boy (WAGs #1) by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

gb-bn-koboALP Synopsis1

Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody (nobody!) can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Blake Riley sees the wedding as fate’s gift to him. Jess is the maid of honor and he’s the best man? Let the games begin. So what if he’s facing a little (fine, a lot) of resistance? He just needs to convince the stubborn blonde that he’s really a good boy with a bad rap. Luckily, every professional hockey player knows that you’ve got to make an effort if you want to score.

But Jess has more pressing issues to deal with than sexy-times with a giant man-child. Such as: Will the ceremony start on time, even though someone got grandma drunk? Does glitter ever belong at a wedding? And is it wrong to murder the best man?

Caution: May cause accidental aspiration of tea or coffee. Do not read in a public place where loud laughter is inappropriate. Contains hot but hilarious hockey players, puppy cuddling and a snarky pair of underwear.

Good Boy possesses just the right concoction of wit, drama and romance to provide a light-hearted and entertaining story.

I love the men Bowen and Kennedy create together. Blake had his own special blend of charm that made him completely irresistible. He was like a bull in a china closet at times with his take charge attitude and determination. But beneath that tough exterior was a swoon-worthy, gentle spirit with a heart of gold. I admired Blake for his tenacity and the patience he demonstrated time and again.

Jess was a frustrating character. Her insecurities and reserved nature made her difficult to connect with at times. She definitely tested Blake’s patience (and mine) which provided for some rather entertaining moments. In the end, I was pleased with her character development.

Overall, this was a cute story and I adored getting to catch up with Wes and Jamie. There were a few eye-rolls over excessive talk about size but I thoroughly enjoyed the chase. I am looking forward to the next installment in the WAGs series, Stay, which is slated to release in June.

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

COVER REVEAL – The True North Series by Sarina Bowen

We are excited to reveal all three covers in Sarina Bowen’s upcoming series as well as the synopsis for the first book, Bittersweet. I can’t wait to get my hands on these!

Sarina Bowen Bittersweet

BITTERSWEET

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the orchard.

The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago they’d shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago.

At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings and a dotty grandfather. He doesn’t have time for the sorority girl who’s shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price.

Vermont was never in Audrey Kidder’s travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okay—a fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way.

They’re adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry is as hot as Audrey’s top secret enchilada sauce, and then some.

RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW – Us by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen

We are so excited to bring you the release information and review for Us by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen.  This is the steamy conclusion to Him, a m/m novel featuring the lovable (and hot) hockey players Jamie Canning and Ryan Wesley.

Us cover

SYNOPSIS

Can your favorite hockey players finish their first season together undefeated?
Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He’s living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves—Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There’s just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.

Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It’s not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn’t help that his new job isn’t going as smoothly as he’d hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.

Or can they? When Wes’s nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?

Warning: contains sexual situations, a vibrating chair, long-distance sexytimes and proof that hockey players look hot in any shade of green.

Us teaser 2

EXCERPT

At long last, I’m twenty paces away, then ten. Then I’m opening our door. “Hey babe!” I call out like I always do. “I made it.” I drag my duffel over the threshold, then toss my suit coat on top, abandoning these things beside the door, because all I need now is a kiss.

Only then do I notice that our apartment smells amazing. Jamie has cooked dinner for me. Again. He is the perfect man, I swear to God.

“Hey!” he calls, emerging from the hallway leading to our bedroom. He’s wearing jeans and nothing else except—and this is unusual—a beard. “Do I know you?” He gives me a sexy smile.

“I was going to ask the same thing.” I’m staring at the sandy-blond beard. Jamie has always been clean-shaven. I mean—we’ve known each other since before facial hair. He looks different. Older, maybe.

And hot as blazes. Seriously, I can’t wait to feel that beard against my face, and maybe my balls… Jesus. The blood is already rushing south, and I’ve been home fifteen seconds.

And yet I’m just stuck there in the middle of the room for a moment, because even though it’s been eight months since Jamie and I started up together, I’m still a little stunned at my own good fortune. “Hi,” I say again, stupidly.

He walks forward, his easy gait so familiar that my heart breaks a little bit. He puts his hands on my traps and squeezes the muscle there. “Don’t go away for so long. If you do that again, I’m going to have to sneak into your hotel room on the road.”

“Promise?” I ask, and it comes out like gravel. He’s close enough now that I can smell the ocean scent of his shampoo and the beer he drank while he waited for me.

“If I ever get a winning lottery ticket and a day off, I’ll do it,” he says. “Hotel sex after a game? Sounds hot.”

Now I’m measuring the distance to our sofa and counting the layers of clothes I’ll need to remove in the next ninety seconds.

Whitney’s Five Star Review

Us is the steamy conclusion to Him, a m/m novel by the fantastic authors Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen.  I happen to be fans of both which led me start this series along with the desire to read another m/m which I hadn’t done in a long time.

The story picks up where Him leaves off and follows the two men on their journey through Wes’ rookie hockey season.  Trying to keep their relationship quiet is anything but easy and it doesn’t take long for the secrets and lies to take a toll on their relationship.  Jamie feels left out of Wes’ life and Wes spends all of him time traveling and missing the love of his life.

Wes’ teammates and Jamie’s family cracked me up and I see some spin-off potential from a couple characters which makes me happy since you know I love a good stand alone series.  But for all the chuckles, this book is nicely balanced with angst.  I can’t speak from personal experience but the trials and tribulations of being a gay man in a professional sport shine through for both men.  Jamie’s coaching is also threatened by his relationship status and my heart was full of pain a few times during the story.

Elle and Sarina are reliable at producing witty dialogue, sexy men and plots that keep you turning the pages despite the fact that the material itself isn’t all that original.  It’s really the character development that made me fall for both the authors and the stories they create.  There is pretty explicit sex so if you can’t handle m/m then you’ll need to steer clear.  But otherwise, I think this is definitely my favorite m/m series and I highly recommend to anyone who loves a good friends to lovers romance!
