BLOG TOUR, REVIEW, AND GIVEAWAY – Beard in Mind by Penny Reid

BEARD IN MIND BT BANNER.jpg

Beard in Mind, an all new standalone in the bestselling, romantic comedy Winston Brothers Series by Penny Reid, is available NOW!

BIM-cover (2)

All is fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.

Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.

She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words.

Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.

The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean losing what matters most.

Excerpt:

She’d taken the sofa, in her own house, and given me the bed. That didn’t make a lick of sense.

I crouched next to her, threading my fingers into the silky hair at her temples. “Honey.”

“Mmm.”

I bent to whisper, “Shelly.”

“Hmm?”

“I’m going to carry you to your bed. I’ll take the sofa.”

“Mmm.”

I grinned at her soft noises, at the untroubled expression on her face, and how her brow—even in sleep—still looked regal and stern.

Sliding my arms under her legs and shoulder, I picked her up. And, unfortunately, that woke her up.

She jerked in my arms. “What are you doing?”

“I’m taking you to the bed.”

“Don’t do that.”

“I don’t mind, I’ll take the sofa.” Our mouths were just inches apart, and hers was distracting.

She squirmed. “Put me down.”

Sighing unhappily, I did. I set her on her feet next to the couch. The blanket pooled at her feet and I stepped back to give her some space. It was dark, but I could see her just fine, and that meant I had to force my eyes to remain above her neck. The woman was wearing two pathetic scraps of fabric as pajamas. A thin little tank top and shorts. That’s it.

I set my jaw and turned to the side, waiting for her to walk past.

“Where are you?”

I glanced at her and realized she couldn’t see at all. She didn’t have a hand out, but the way her eyes were moving about the room gave away her blindness.

“I’m here.” I didn’t touch her, because if I did, I wouldn’t want to stop.

Shelly turned her head in my direction and took a deep breath. Still she didn’t reach for me. I didn’t know the specifics of what to expect after her Friday session, but I recalled Dr. West saying something about Shelly doing self-guided ERP exercises over this week.

“Can you see?” She licked her lips, her voice sandpapery. “Because I can’t see at all. It’s so dark.”

“I can see.” Unbidden, my eyes dropped to her body, to the swell of her breasts, the panel of bare stomach, the curve of her hips. Pinpricks of heat raised over my skin and I curled my hands into fists.

She shuffled forward and I caught her before she bumped into me, setting my hands gently at her waist.

“Let me take you to your room.” My voice was rough, for obvious reasons.

Saying nothing, she brought her hand to my forearm, her body gently colliding with mine. And then her hand on my arm slid up my bicep to my shoulder.

“Shelly.” I was running out of breath.

“I like this.”

“What?”

“Touching you.”

Oh fuck.

I held still and endured her hands moving over my body, down the front of my shirt, stopping at the hem, then pushing it up.

“Take this off.”

I did. I pulled the T-shirt over my head and let it drop to the floor.

We stood there, facing each other in the dark, not touching. Despite the session on Friday and the progress that had been made, I realized she wasn’t quite there yet. Dr. West was right, Friday was just a step, the first step. Shelly wasn’t able to initiate contact. Not yet.

Her hands balled into fists and she swayed forward, her breath struggling little puffs.

If anything was going to happen tonight, I had to initiate it. I had to be the one to touch first.

God, how I wanted her. How I wanted her above me, beneath me, surrounding me. But how could I?

“I know why I hesitate,” her voice was breathless, “but why do you hesitate?”

“Lots of reasons.”

“Give me one.”

“I don’t want to you use you.”

“I wish you would.”

That pulled a laugh from me, just a small relief from the mounting tension. My eyes moved over her body, an undeniable impulse to devour the sight of her, her legs, stomach, chest, then up her neck to her lips.

“You asked me on Saturday if sex was a big deal for me, or if it was you. The answer is both.”

She held very still, and I got the sense she was holding her breath, straining to listen.

“You are a big deal to me. I don’t want a fling. I don’t want a flirtation. I want promises.”

“What can I promise you?”

That you’ll love me. That I’ll be your priority.

She shifted her weight from foot to foot. A spike of anxiety that she might leave me like this had me acting without forethought. I lifted my hands to her waist again and immediately, her fingertips skimmed over skin of my lower stomach in response, making my muscles tense in hot anticipation. She grew more assertive as she caressed my sides, abdomen, ribs, chest, shoulders, and then back down.

Shelly stepped closer, a hint of thrilling contact between her breasts and my torso, and all the words and worries melted from my mind, died on my tongue, suffocated by the feel of her body, and the possibility of this moment.

Her finger hooked in the waistband of my jeans. “Take these off.” Her hand turned, her fingers and palm cupping me over my zipper.

Instinctively, I pressed myself into her touch even as I grabbed her wrist.

“Beau, I promise—”

She didn’t get to speak, because I kissed her, hard and wild, unbuttoning and unzipping my fly with one hand and bringing her palm inside my boxers with the other.

Whitney’s Five Star Review

Beau and Shelly = absolute perfection

If you’re a Winston Brothers series fan, then you were teased while reading Beard Science about jovial twin brother, Beau and the cranky new mechanic, Shelly. In fact, much of this book runs concurrently with Beard Science so while this is all new material you’ll notice how the timelines match during Cletus and Jenn’s appearances in the book.

Penny is known for her smart and/or quirky characters and she may have knocked it out of the park with Shelly. We’ve known her since the beginning of the Knitting in the City series as Quinn’s oddball sister who many speculated had OCD. You’ll get all the answers behind Shelly’s actions and if you don’t cry (or at least tear up), then you must not be fully human.

We’ve always known Beau as the cheerful Winston twin and although his personality is much of what I expected, the depth of his character and the journey he takes with Shelly is just beautiful. Incorrect first impressions marred his judgement but it doesn’t take long for him to realize there’s much more to Shelly than a beautiful face and a snarky attitude. There’s definitely chemistry between them but it’s more subtle than some of Penny’s other books. But once they come together, there are definite hot looks and even hotter moments.

I really hope all of Penny’s fans will love this book. Janie is probably the other ‘oddball’ character Penny has written but she has nothing on Shelly. Our heroine in this book has a lot of issues and will never be a ‘normal’ heroine and I adore this about her and Penny.

The only problem I had with this book is that it ended. Ha. But seriously, I could have read a few more chapters to get more answers about Shelly and Beau’s future. But I’m hoping we’ll get glimpses of them in future books.

Oh, and I almost forgot… Beau and Duane together in this book just killed me. Gah… I cried again!

So folks who love Penny, READ this book. If you haven’t read Penny yet, I do recommend at least reading the previous Winston Brothers books before this one. Can’t wait for Roscoe’s book!

‘Dating-ish’ can be read as a standalone, is a full length 100k word novel, and is book #6 in the Knitting in the City Series.

There are three things you need to know about Marie Harris: 1) She’s fed up with online dating, 2) She’s so fed up, she’s willing to forego the annoyance and consider more creative alternatives, and 3) She knows how to knit.

After the most bizarre and irritating first date in the history of humankind, Marie is looking for an alternative to men. With the help of her friends, she quickly identifies a few possibilities:

Need a cuddle? Use a professional cuddler. Need affirmation? Get yourself a life coach. Need an orgasm? Try orgasm meditation! Why does she need the hassle of a romantic partner when she can meet all her needs with paid services?

But then her irritating date resurfaces. And he’s not at all the person she thought he was. And he suggests a different–and crazier–solution to her dilemma . . .

The Cad and The Co-Ed, a quirky and sexy romantic comedy from Penny Reid & L.H. Cosway is available now!!

thecadandco-edcover

THE CAD

Bryan Leech is a cad.

Or, he *was* a cad.

No one is quite certain.

Once the quintessential playboy, Bryan claims he’s done with wild parties and weekend benders. No more one night stands leading to mornings he can’t remember; no more binges and blackouts; no more exploits plastered all over the tabloids and rag sheets. According to Bryan, he’s cleaning up his act.

The only problem is, no one believes him.

THE CO-ED

Eilish Cassidy never thought she’d be a mother at nineteen or still in college at twenty-four. Cut off from every member of her family except her favorite cousin, she’s finally managed to put her life back together. Stronger and wiser, Eilish enters her last semester of university determined to stand on her own. Now she just needs to find an internship.

The only problem is, her best option—by far—places her directly in the path of her son’s father, and he doesn’t remember her at all.

THE PLAN

Bryan is determined to prove he’s changed. Eager to settle down with the right woman, he’s got his sights set on the gorgeous redhead who seems terribly familiar.

Eilish is determined to hide her secret. She’ll do anything to keep her child safe, even if that means ignoring her own wishes and desires.

But what happens when Bryan starts to remember? And what will it take for Bryan to convince the girl he forgot that she’s unforgettable?

Whitney’s Five Star Review

This book was just everything I needed when I picked it up and when you love a book so much, it’s actually harder to review it.

I was afraid I’d hate Bryan because of his cad ways but I never did. Only a small snippet of this book has him living his old life. For 95% of the book, he has grown up and realized he needs to change his lifestyle. With alcoholic family members, his health was on the line and he’s just coming to the realization that he’s lonely.

Eilish is amazing. I love reading female characters who are single mothers where you literally feel the love for their kids flowing from the pages. Her child is truly what is most important to her even though feelings for Bryan start to surface once she’s face to face with him again.

The writing is fast paced and witty. There are some sexy moments but they’re pretty toned down. It’s all about the tension and the feelings more than physical action. I thought the authors timed Bryan’s finding out about his son perfectly. I wasn’t sure if it would happen quickly or later on and I won’t spoil it, but for me it was great. All of Bryan’s interactions with his son were spot on and made my heart flutter.

I just want everyone to read this series. Although the books stand alone, I do recommend starting with book one if you want to read the whole series. There are snippets of other characters that will make more sense if you read in order.

Penny and L.H. are responsible for my increasing crush on Rugby players! This is a must read folks!

**Now that I’m several weeks post reading my arc, I can say that I STILL have a hangover from this story.

Whitney’s Million Star Review

Nothing I can say will be able to express my love for this book.  I’m thinking it may be my top read of 2016.  And anyone who knows me has to understand how much this means.  I enjoy romcom but NEVER have I ever thought I’d put a romcom above my normal angsty reads.  But that’s Penny Reid for you.  She’s fantastic and I want to be her best friend.
If you’ve read Penny’s books then you will be pleasantly surprised how she ups her already amazing ‘smart romance’ game with Beard Science.  If you haven’t read her before, I urge you to read in order even though this is technically a stand alone.  The beauty of Penny’s books are that the series tie together and you keep coming back to characters you know and love.  If I could pick one series to ‘live’ in, it would be Penny’s books.
But enough of my vague Penny worship.  Let’s get to Cletus and Jennifer, the couple everyone has been waiting for!  They are so perfect for each other and watching them fall is the most satisfying romance I’ve read in quite a while.  The sweet banana cake queen blackmails Cletus into helping her.  He’s shocked that someone was more diabolical than him and reluctantly agrees.
I couldn’t choose a favorite part of the book if I tried because I’d basically have to highlight the entire thing.  But Jennifer’s ‘date’ with Billy is high up on the list.  Cletus is conniving, hilarious, and so darn sweet.  I loved seeing the romantic and protective side to his personality.
Jennifer is actually a great heroine.  Despite her initial doormat personality, you’ll fall in love with the woman she wants to be.  She blooms under direction and attention from Cletus and the rest of the Winston clan.
Well, now that I’ve written this review I think I’m going to have to read the book again.  This is one I wish I could unread just so I could experience the awesome all over again.  Again, this review can not possibly describe how much I love this book, this series, these characters.  Just read them.

About Penny Reid

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
