SPOTLIGHT REVIEW – Franco by Kim Holden

Franco Genovese is the drummer for world renowned American rock band, Rook. He’s got it all. A killer smile. Tattoos. Talent. Razor sharp wit and humor. And a heart as big, and generous, as they come.
Life is good. Steady. Uncomplicated. Just the way he likes things.
Until one night at an unassuming L.A. bar changes everything.
Enter Gemma Hendricks.
She’s a successful young architect from Northern England with an adorable smile, sarcasm for days, and an unparalleled trusting heart.
The attraction is instant.
So is their friendship.
It’s also temporary because they’ll both be heading home, thousands of miles apart from each other, in a few days.
Or is it?
There’s something Gemma wants more than anything else.
And when Franco propositions her to provide what she’s looking for, everything changes.
Will it transform friendship into love, or will it be their ruin?
Note from the author: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is recommended for mature audiences.

Whitney’s 4.5 Star Review

My love for the Bright Side series will never end so I’ve been super excited to read more about Franco. His bromance with Gus in previous books has left me laughing as well as his touching friendship with Kate.
Kim Holden fashioned the perfect heroine for him in Gemma.  She’s fun, flirty and at the same time, very mature.  After spending a few sexy and fun filled days with Franco, she goes back to her native England content to know she has Franco’s friendship.
But Franco is restless after having finally realizing he’s found the perfect woman.  One he seemingly can’t have.  I won’t ruin the plot but when Gemma drops a bombshell on Franco, he is determined to help her reach her dreams.
The two are so perfect for each other, it was hard to read through the angst of them being apart.  But never fear, all ends well and I won’t reveal another detail!
The characters are very well developed and the nod to previous series characters was great.  Gus had me laughing, of course.  And references to Kate had me smiling and sad at the same time.  If you’re a fan of this series then this book is a must read.

Before long she finds herself in a whirlwind romance that seems too good to be true–until a series of devastating events leaves her questioning everything.

It’s not until she chooses to think with her heart instead of her mind that she can rise from the ashes to learn the truth of their connection.

Dimitri’s face is peaceful and angelic as he rises to help me put my coat on. “Thanks for coming over tonight, Ronnie. You don’t know what it meant to me. I feel like this is the first time I’ve been able to breathe in months.” He lifts his hand, but hesitantly stops just short of brushing my cheek. He smiles and lowers it. “Can I walk you to your car?”

My heart is soaring and my palms are sweaty. “I’d like that.”

We walk slowly down the long driveway, our bodies so close that our arms brush against each other. I think back to the first day of school and smile; personal space is so overrated.

He opens the driver side door and stands behind it at a safe distance so as not to make the situation awkward. I throw my bag through onto the passenger seat and stand with one hand on the door and the other on the steering wheel. When I look up at him he’s staring down at me. His eyes glitter in the streetlight.

It’s at that moment that my life comes into focus, like flipping a switch. The entire world tilts back onto its axis. Call it an epiphany; the rare type of realization that changes your life absolutely. I need this man in my life. I need him like I need air and water. He is part of me—my past and my future. Since the day we met I’ve given my heart to him … piece by piece. And it’s at this exact moment that I realize he has all of it. My heart is no longer mine; it belongs to him and always will.

I can’t help but smile.

He returns the smile—his beautiful smile. “What?” he asks softly.

“Thank you for being you, Dimitri.”

Not much escapes him and I know from the look in his eyes that he understands. He nods humbly. “You’re welcome.”

I duck down into the driver’s seat and look back up at him. “Maybe I’ll see you tomorrow.” I don’t know if it’s a question or a declaration, but it’s hopeful.

He winks. “You can count on it.”

Slowly he shuts the door and moves to the sidewalk. I wave and pull away, watching him in my rearview mirror as he begins to fade into the distance. He stands there glowing under the streetlight like an angelic statue. When I turn the corner, he’s gone.

Life is sometimes … an epiphany.

AuthorSome of my favorite things: reading, writing, the two coolest guys on the planet (my husband and son), my bicycle (my husband built it for me), Facebook (I’m fairly certain it’s an addiction at this point), iced coffee (hazelnut), and music (LOVE the 1975, Dredg, the xx, Haim, Manchester Orchestra, Teenage Bottlerocket, and 30 Seconds to Mars).  I also love dreaming. Big. Writing a few years ago was an elusive dream until I grabbed ahold of it with both hands and refused to let go. Keep following YOUR dreams. Be brave and do epic!

 ALP P's Review

This is an emotional story about friendship, family and love. It’s about embracing life and finding acceptance in a world that can be cruel and intolerant. Bright Side was emotional, compelling, and delivered a powerful message. This is definitely one of my top reads for 2014 and I urge you to move this to the top of your TBR.

Kate was strong and full of compassion. Her optimism was infectious and I admire the determination she showed to embrace her life in its entirety. She left her mark on me and I hope that I can be a little more like Kate. I identified with her in a way that brought back memories of my own childhood. As such, my love for Kate can’t really be put into words.

Keller was incredible. His love for Kate was beautiful and his story touched my heart. He was selfless and gave Kate exactly the kind of love she needed. They were perfectly suited for one another and I am a better person for having witnessed the great love they shared.

Gus was genuine, down to earth, and loved Kate deeply and effortlessly. I had a Gus in my life once and though we drifted apart years ago, I look back on that friendship and smile to have had such a wonderful and caring person in my life, if only for a short time. Everyone needs a Gus in their life.

As I sit here a week after I finished this book, this story and these characters still consume me. My heart is broken and yet it’s full. My eyes still have tears and yet I wear a smile. Do yourself a favor and experience this book. You won’t be sorry, I promise.

Some of my favorite things: reading, writing, the two coolest guys on the planet (my husband and son), my bicycle (my husband built it for me), Facebook (I’m fairly certain it’s an addiction at this point), iced coffee (hazelnut), and music (LOVE the 1975, Dredg, the xx, Haim, Teenage Bottlerocket, and 30 Seconds to Mars). I also love dreaming, which brings me to my next point. I have one bit of advice for anyone reading this … follow your dreams. It’s never too late. Get started today … heck get started RIGHT NOW! I wanted to write a book 20 years ago. Instead I waited. And waited. I should’ve been writing. But I didn’t. I don’t do regrets, because the past is just that, the past. But let me tell you there’s nothing in the world like achieving something you’ve dreamt about for years and years. So, get started. Make your dreams reality.
