UNSPOKEN VOWS will be taking place TODAY in my READER GROUP!!
 EXCERPT:
I sit back down and Morgan hands me another box that is wrapped in silver paper with a big black frilly bow on it.
“That’s from me.” Lindsey raises her hand in the air.
A few of my aunts turn around to see who the gift is from.
I untie the ribbon and tear the paper off quickly. When I lift the lid, my eyes go wide. Oh, my God. I can’t show everyone this. My eyes seek a laughing Lindsey out.
“That is for your honeymoon,” Lindsey declares, rubbing her hands together.
I put the lid back on and go to shift the box off of my lap when Morgan stops me. “Oh, no you don’t. Hold it up and show everyone.”
“I can’t. Just give me the next package.”
“You are not getting off that easy,” Karsen chimes in.
Lindsey lifts an eyebrow and her features become more animated. Satisfaction purses her mouth. “I’m not sure who will love this present more. You or Jamie.”
“We’re all adults here. We know what happens on honeymoons,” Morgan says.
“I understand that, but my aunts, my mother, and my future mother-in-law do not need to know what I will be wearing on my honeymoon.” I growl at Morgan, my voice almost unrecognizable.
“Lighten up, sweetheart. Most of us have had our own bridal showers. We know what types of gifts you get besides the household appliances, silverware, and flatware. Humor us old folks, will ya,” my mom says.
“This is so embarrassing,” I mutter and lift the lid off the box again. Inside sits a lingerie set which includes a gartered skirt, G-string, and lacy bra. The set is a gorgeous pink with contrasting black trim, lace print, and bow accents. Lindsey also included a sheer black pair of thigh highs.
“That’s what I’m talking about. Jamie is going to love that on you!” Lindsey hollers.
Laughter erupts in the room. You would think I was at my bachelorette party with how much fun everyone is having. Their laughter is at my expense, but at least they are having a good time.
“Jamie’s always liked you in pink,” Michelle says with a hint of laughter in her voice.

All eyes land on me after my future mother-in-law’s comment. My face heats under everyone’s scrutiny. “Can the ground just open up and swallow me now,” I mutter under my breath.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.  At one point, I was sure I had only read about 10% farther than the last time I’d checked when, in reality, I’d read another 30%.  That, my friends, is a sure sign of an engrossing story.

KL Grayson didn’t pull any punches with Black.  It was gritty and intense, included a touch of the taboo, and was altogether wonderful.  It was also nothing I expected from KL Grayson.  Her other books tended more toward the softer, sweeter side of romance, while this one toed the darker side.  I loved it.  From the very start of the book, I knew I was going to be in for quite a ride and I was not wrong.

It’s difficult to surprise me, so I was able to guess the direction the story was going, but it did not take away from the story at all.  All of the secrets and lies and cover-ups made this story so much fun to read.  I’m a sucker for a good romantic suspense and Black fit that bill well.  I hope that KL Grayson continues to write books within this genre, as her signature sweet romance gave a lovely nuance to a genre that can sometimes venture into the unbelievable.

I particularly loved the characters in this book.  Each of them was developed enough to feel complete, but there is still enough to learn about all of them, including Rex and Shae, the main characters, to leave plenty of things to learn throughout the rest of the series.  I found myself especially curious about Shae’s roommates and hope to eventually learn more about who they are in addition to the character whose book was teased at the end of Black.

After devouring all of KL Grayson’s published works some months ago I found myself anticipating each of her releases since with great longing.  Her works always find a way to tug at my heartstrings and it was no different with Black.  I dare say that this book may be her best to date.  Though I only finished this book a mere hour ago, I am already antsy to get my hands on the next one.

“So, Shae, tell me a little about yourself.”

“Really? You want to talk?”

I chuckle. “You sound surprised.”

“Because I am.”

“What’s wrong with getting to know the woman I’m about to fuck?”

“Are there things about me you’re dying to know?”

You have no fucking idea. “As a matter of fact, there are.”

She studies me for a moment and tips her glass, finishing off what’s left of her wine. She sets it on the counter, strides across the kitchen, and opens the curtains, revealing a breathtaking view of the Chicago skyline.

With her back to me, she takes a deep breath and when she exhales she says, “Let’s have it.”

In one gulp, I finish off my wine and set the glass next to hers. I slowly walk across the room, enjoying the view in front of me as I do.

And I’m not talking about the skyline. The dips and valleys of Chicago’s cityscape may be impressive, but they have nothing on Shae’s soft curves.

Her skirt is a little rumpled, her blouse untucked, and her long, dark hair falls in waves around her shoulders. Her body draws mine like a magnet, and when I step into her, pressing my chest against her back, she doesn’t move. There is no gasp of surprise, no stiffening spine, she’s just here in this moment with me.

“Let’s start with your favorite color.”

“Purple.” Her voice is shaky, and when I run my finger down the back of her neck, she tilts her head, allowing room for my lips to graze the silky smooth skin.

“Favorite food.”

“Italian.”

“Great choice.” I kiss a path along her shoulder. A shiver runs through her, and I smile against her skin. “Favorite sport.”

“Baseball.”

“Mine too. Favorite team?”

“C-Cardinals.” I nip at her soft skin, and Shae sucks in a breath. “What was that for?”

“I’m a Cubs fan.”

“That’s okay; I forgive you.”

I nip her again, run my tongue along the side of her neck, and blow lightly. Goosebumps race across the creamy skin.

“You’re so responsive, Shae. I can’t wait to see what else I can get your body to do.”

She takes a shuddery breath, and I can tell by the flutter of her pulse against my lips that my words excite her.

“What did Erin mean when she said you hadn’t been with a man in quite some time?” She doesn’t immediately respond, so I turn her in my arms.

Her cheeks turn the prettiest shade of pink as she looks at the floor. “You caught that, huh?”

“It’s pretty much all I’ve been thinking about.”

She looks up. “Really? Why?”

Fuck if I know. Maybe because I like you and the thought of other men touching you makes me want to strangle someone. But telling her that now probably isn’t the smartest idea, so I just shrug.

“Don’t know. Just curious is all.” Shae still doesn’t answer, and I can feel the air around us growing thick. “How many men have you been with?”

Her eyes grow as wide as saucers. “I don’t see how that’s any of your business.”

“It’s not. But I want it to be.”

Glancing down, she fiddles with the hem of her blouse. “Not many.”

“How many is not many?”

She tries to look away, but I don’t let her, so she opts to fold her arms over her chest. A universal defense mechanism. She thinks she’s shielding herself, but all she’s doing is fluffing her tits, putting all of that smooth, silky skin on full display. “I’m not a virgin, if that’s what you’re wondering.”

“I never questioned whether you’re a virgin.”

“Good, because I’m not,” she says firmly, and then her voice trails off. “I’m just not that experienced.”

“How inexperienced?”

Finally frustrated, she throws her arms out to the side. “Why does it matter?”

Running my hand up the back of her head, I thread my fingers through the silky strands of her hair. Something I’ve wanted to do since the moment I laid eyes on her. Gripping it tight, I tug and her head dips back. She looks up at me, her eyes smoldering, and I wonder what else she’d let me do.

“Because I want to fuck you, and I’m not a gentle man, Shae.”

Sucking her bottom lip between her teeth, she bites gently as I wait for her to respond. Something…anything would be good. Then she looks at my mouth, and what happens next isn’t at all what I’m expecting.

“We should probably kiss first.” She smiles coyly, and I do the only thing I can do.

I kiss her.

“India, I’m not using her. I mean, I am, but it’s not like that. Eloise is getting what she wants out of this relationship, as well.”

“Like what?”

“I can’t tell you.”

“You are using her.”

“I’m not.” His chair screeched as he pulled it closer so our knees touched. His dark eyes moved over my face and I sucked in my breath at the open appreciation I saw there. “I’m not using her…but we are in a relationship together. I guess it just never occurred to me that I might actually meet someone in high school. Someone I…”

That feeling in my chest, that thick, hot feeling, threatened to overwhelm me at all the things he wasn’t saying. “Finn, Eloise is going to be my family.”

He looked so forlorn it took everything within me not to reach for him.

“What is it you’re hiding?”

“I can’t tell you. Please, just trust me.”

Hurt and frustration swept through me in equal measure but I tamped it down. It wasn’t my place to demand his secrets.

My frustration was suddenly mirrored in his eyes as he looked up at me. “I wish things were different.”

But they weren’t different. And yet they were the same, history repeating itself. I cared about someone and they didn’t care enough about me back to be honest about what was really going on.

I didn’t know if I was angry at Finn or just angry that nothing ever seemed to be easy for me. Everything was always a fight.

It felt like I lived in a constant clusterfuck.

I gave a huff of laughter. “Story of my life.” I shook my head, grabbed up my bag and, unable to look at him, said, “Thank you for your help tonight.”

“You’re not leaving without me.”

His protectiveness confused and pissed me off even more. “I’m not? Funny, it looks like that’s exactly what I’m doing.”

His familiar scowl was back in place at my sarcasm. “You’re also not going home alone after what happened here. I’ll give you a ride.”

“Finn.” I slumped, suddenly feeling exhausted. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Sadness flittered through his eyes before he managed a carefully blank expression. “I think I can handle driving you home.”

Still a trembling mess after everything that had happened, I gave in and followed Finn out to his car.

The tension that we’d shared before was nothing compared to how it was now. Now that Finn had in a roundabout way admitted he liked me and I’d realized that what I was feeling for him was attraction, the tension could not be mistaken for anything else but sexual.

I’d never felt anything like it before—it was the most frustrating, scary and exhilarating feeling in the world.

When we eventually pulled up outside the house, the guilt washed over me. I shouldn’t be feeling this way about Eloise’s boyfriend and he certainly shouldn’t be feeling this way about me.

I felt like we were to blame for the whole thing but I didn’t know why.

I hadn’t asked the universe to make Finn like me.

And I had definitely not intended to like him in return.

“India,” he said just as I moved to get out of his car. “I’ve never really cared what anybody thought of me before…but I really don’t want you to think I’m a bad person.”

I stared into his beautiful eyes. “I can’t imagine ever thinking you’re a bad person. I meant it earlier…thank you for coming for me tonight. I’ll never forget it.”

“This feels weirdly like a goodbye,” he said with a bitter twist to his gorgeous lips.

“Maybe it is. I guess we’re both just a complication the other doesn’t need.”

Slowly, so slowly my heart had time to increase in hard, steady thumps, Finn slid his hand over the center console between us and stroked his thumb along the side of my hand. I felt that simple touch in every nerve, my body reacting to it in a way it never had to the touches and deep kisses that had come before it.

I stared at our hands for a moment, wondering how different my life could be if Finn wasn’t Eloise’s boyfriend, if we’d just met as strangers at school, felt the inexplicable bond between us and were free to do something about it.

Suddenly very aware of how long I’d been sitting outside the house in his car, I fumbled for the door handle. “See you around, Finn.”

One of my very favorite things about YA is how current and culturally relevant they tend to be.  I love that YA authors aren’t afraid to deal with delicate topics in a way that feels real.  The Impossible Vastness of Us was a great example of that relevancy to important societal issues.

The Impossible Vastness of Us was a very fresh story to me.  I’ve never read anything quite like it and I am finding in difficult to properly describe the what the experience of reading it was.  I went into this book thinking it was going to be more sappy romance than substantial commentary on the ills of the world.  My take away was completely opposite of what I had assumed and I am very happy about that.  Samantha Young wrote a book about the struggles and rewards of discovering the parts of you that make you and individual, whether they’re something others understand and accept or not.  Above the romance and finding love, The Impossible Vastness of Us was a story of learning to love yourself in spite of the things you may not find lovable.

There were moments in the book that veered into the monotonous, parts that seemed more like filler than plot development, but they were overshadowed by all of the intense emotions and horrors of the past that the characters experienced.  The plot of The Impossible Vastness of Us was so unique, compared to other books I’ve read, that it was easy to overlook those moments that didn’t work for me in favor of the intrigue of the rest of the book.  At one point in the book India says she used to need books to have a happy ending, but she’d come to a place where she just wanted them to have the right ending, to which her mother states that the right ending is a happy ending. That interaction perfectly sums up how I feel about this book.

When I first met the characters in this book I wasn’t sure which, if any of them, I would like or even identify with.  By the halfway point, I was sure that a few of them were beyond redemption, even if they thought they were doing the only thing they could given their circumstances.  When I read the final line of The Impossible Vastness of Us, I realized how ridiculous my pre-conceived notions were and that even if the motivations of a person don’t make sense on the surface with time and explanation understanding was easy to come by.  I fell in love with almost every character in the book and there were pieces of each of them that were things I could see within myself.

Though I’ve had several of Samantha Young’s books sitting on my selves for years, this is the first book of hers that I’ve actually read.  I was quite impressed with her writing and storytelling abilities.  She wove a plot that was interesting and felt real, while still remaining relevant to the particular circumstances each of the major players were facing.  I also greatly enjoyed her characterizations and will definitely be adding more of her books to my short list.

“This is Jay,” I said, crossing my arms over my chest in defiance at the stern look on her face.

I hated when she acted like she gave a crap.

“I don’t care who he is.” Hayley tried to fry his ass with her eyes. “You can leave.”

Jay stared back at her with as much defiance as I did, making me like him more. He turned to me and pressed a slow, intimate kiss to the corner of my mouth. “See you at school, babe.”

He laughed at the mischief in my eyes.

I waited until he’d brushed by Hayley without a word and I heard the front door close behind him. “Nice. Thanks.”

Hayley’s dark eyes narrowed into slits. “Don’t talk to me like that. I’m tired, it’s been a long day and now I come home and find my daughter being mauled by some walking hormone. Am I supposed to be happy that you’re dating some guy who looks like he’s seen the inside of prison more than once?”

“We’re not dating. We’re just fooling around.”

“Oh, well, then, why am I so upset?” She threw her hands up in exasperation.

“Hayley.”

She flinched, like she always flinched when I called her by her name (so she flinched a lot). “Don’t ‘Hayley’ me. I have a right to be upset about this.”

“Don’t be. I’m not serious about him. And I’m not getting pregnant. Anyway, you’re home early.”

“They put me on a shorter flight.” She dumped her purse on the couch as she moved farther into the room. “We’ll discuss Jay later. I need to tell you something.”

I tensed. “Yeah?”

She stared pensively at me for a few seconds before finally taking a seat by my side. “I’ve met someone.”

Dread instantly filled me.

Scrutinizing me for a reaction and getting none, Hayley smiled reassuringly. “He’s wonderful. His name is Theo and he has a daughter who’s actually your age. He lives in Boston. We met on one of my flights out there.”

My stomach churned. “How long?”

“Several months ago.”

“I knew something was going on,” I muttered.

“I’m sorry I kept it from you for so long… I just wanted to make sure it was real between us.”

“And is it?”

“Very much so. We’ve fallen in love.”

“That’s some long-distance relationship.”

“I stay with him when I fly out there. I see him as often as possible.”

I snorted. “And you think he’s faithful all the times you’re not around?”

“Don’t.” She cut a hand through the air. “Those are your trust issues, India. Not mine.”

My blood boiled with indignation. She was completely naïve if she thought for one second this guy wasn’t’ a loser. She had chosen badly before, after all. I had a right to the dread that was making me feel sick.

“I just wanted to give you a heads-up that it’s serious.”

“What does that even mean?”

“It means that if this is going where I think it’s going, then that might mean a big life change for us.”

Oh, hell.

I stared at her in horror.

Hayley sighed wearily at the expression I wasn’t even trying to conceal. “I’m going to make a cup of tea. I’m tired so we’ll talk about Jay another time.” She turned but then stopped to stare at me sadly. “Thanks for being so happy for me, by the way.”

That didn’t even deserve a response.

There was a time Hayley couldn’t give a damn about my happiness. I felt it only fair that I feel apathetic now about hers.

After reading the first book in this series, Hammered, I wasn’t sure if this was going to be something I was going to enjoy.  Hammered was very heavy on the erotica and fairly light on the storyline and I had expected much the same from this book.  I am very ecstatic to say that I was wrong.  Yes, this book did have some pretty intense sex scenes, but they were always secondary to the Garrett and Juliana.

After reading Hammered, I wasn’t sure that Juliana could be redeemed.  I was actually pretty sure I would never like her no matter what happened with her.  She had done and said things that were seemingly unforgivable. If took some time, a lot of time – most of the book, really for her to win me over piece by piece.  Her past, her fears, combined with some bad choices by all parties made her choices much easier to understand.  She was more damaged than I could have imagined and I loved getting to witness her heal and become a person who was deserving of all the things she was sure she never would.

Garrett had his own truckload of horrific things in his past, some of his own doing and some thrust upon him by the most types of people.  The dynamic between him and his brothers, particularly Gage, made this story for me.  Their relationship started as the kind of thing nightmares are made of and slowly morphed into a beautiful demonstration of love and kindness.  The way that Gage took cared for his brothers, Juliana, and Brandon showed just how magnificent a person he was in spite of the things life had dealt him.

While there were some things I wish would have been more fully resolved, I know there is another book, Grayson’s, coming and I’m hoping to find answers in it.

With a low chuckle I roll over on my bed to eyeball the stolen file that I’d slapped on my bedside table last night before crashing. I’m feeling rather pleased with myself until my gaze encounters Jake. My gleeful chortle dies a quick death.

He’s leaning against my bedroom wall, bare-chested, arms folded, and wearing nothing but a pair of black boxer-briefs and a furious glare.

My gaze drops to the bed where Jake has laid out the black beanie used to cover my pale hair, and the black leather gloves that kept my fingerprints from any surface I came in contact with.

Fuck. The sun is streaming in through the blinds and I know it must be late morning already. Clearly I’d forgotten to set the morning alarm. A rookie mistake. And now I need to get past the gauntlet that is Jake and somehow get the file to Casey before he enacts his own plan to retrieve it.

My eyes flick up, meeting his. “Morning,” I say coolly.

His jaw ticks. “Care to explain?”

Jake’s car keys rest on top of the report file and I know he’s seen them. Not only had I performed a break and enter last night, I had also added car theft to my criminal repertoire. Explaining that will likely cause my untimely death. I pretend to consider his question for a moment. “Not really.”

Jake pushes off from the wall and moves toward the bed, bringing him closer. “Well you’re going to.”

“No,” I say, casually sliding across the mattress and away from Jake. “Not today. I have things to—”

Putting one knee on the bed, Jake leans across and grabs the back of my long-sleeved shirt in his fist. He yanks and the distinct sound of a riiipppppp renders the air.

“My shirt,” I gasp as I fly through the air, landing on my back on the mattress with a hard bounce.

“I don’t give a rat’s fucking ass about your shirt,” he growls, straddling my body.

His hard thighs trap me in place and his hands pin mine to the bed. Moving will likely end with a cracked rib.

Jake leans his face down until I can’t look anywhere but in his eyes. “You can start with why you’re dressed like a thieving little bandit.”

“Because I stole your car.”

“Why did you steal my car?”

“Because I couldn’t get a cab.”

I actually considered calling for a taxi but then my movements would be on public record, easily placing me at the scene. I’d had to rule it out.

“Stop leading me in circles, Princess, and spit it the fuck out. What did you do?

I huff deeply, letting my frustration out. Jake isn’t going to just let this go. It leaves me with two choices. Lie or be honest. I chose door number two, because while I sometimes keep things from Jake, he doesn’t deserve outright deceit.

I spill out my early hours adventure, rethinking my choice of honesty as he sits back on the bed, his fury a slow-building thunderstorm.

There’s silence for a tense moment when I finish speaking.

“You committed a felony,” he says in a soft voice. I’m not fooled by the tone. His anger is a barely leashed lion. “And you used my car to do it.”

My lips press in a thin line. I hadn’t thought that particular implication through, and now I’m angry at myself. “I’m sorry.”

His expression narrows to one of vengeful retribution. “Oh you’ll be sorry.”

“I will?”

“When I paddle your fucking ass.”

“Jake—”

“Shut it,” he growls, his voice rising. “You broke into a detective’s house. You stole her property. You—”

“Casey’s property,” I mutter.

“Don’t interrupt me when I’m explaining your stupidity to you.”

Genres: New Adult, Romance

“Can one of these five rockstars fill the hole in my heart? Or will I stay broken forever?”

Young, dumb, and broke.

That’s what started everything. With five dollars in her pocket, and everything she owns stuffed in the back of her car, Lilith Goode’s life is over. Done. Destroyed.

Ten words. One text. That’s what it took to change the whole world.

A crumpled concert ticket. A chance encounter. That’s what it takes to start all over again.

Five rockstars. One girl. Six dark hearts, six withered souls.
But can one broken person really put another back together again?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

(Sex Scene From Copeland’s POV)

I close my eyes, my skin achy and hot, my balls tight, my entire body this ball of energy that craves more of whatever this is, this twisted ball of four fucked-up souls.  We might just be bodies in motion, but there’s something more here.  I can feel it.

The sex was good—it was great, actually—but it wasn’t their be-all, end-all.  No, it was their outlet.  Whatever they did, however kinky, dark, twisted, or different, it was all just an expression of their love, a way to get as close as possible, to keep the blackness inside their souls at bay for another night, another day.  No, the touching, joining, rubbing of their bodies wasn’t the answer to all their problems, but it was the symptom of their solution.

I blink past the swirl of literary porn inside my head and drive myself into Lilith harder, deeper, rocking the couch and everyone on it with each thrust.  A single movement of my hips drives my cock into Lilith, slides her pussy along Ran’s shaft, pushes Muse deeper into her throat.  I control the entire thing, moving us in this strange, wild rhythm that shouldn’t work but totally does.

It’s Lilith that comes first, before all of us, screaming and arching her back, her lips temporarily falling off Muse’s shaft as she digs her nails into Ran’s shoulders and shudders around me and him both, squeezing us with her body.  It’s intense and long, but I keep moving through it, even as she tries to collapse, holding her up by tightening my fingers on her hips.

As soon as she recovers a little, Lilith sits back up and wraps a hand around Muse, pulling him back to her mouth, squeezing the base of his dick as she swirls her tongue along the underside, teases the sensitive spot just beneath the head.

I enjoy watching that, moving faster and harder, feeling my pulse race inside my head, my skin tightening as an orgasm builds up quick and desperate inside of me.  Muse comes next, both hands on the back of Lilith’s head as he makes these wild sounds low in his throat, making Ran buck and thrash beneath us.  I realize he’s coming, too, and hold a steady pace, sweat dripping off my chin onto Lilith’s perfect round ass.  Once I drop my gaze down to the joining of our bodies, I can’t look away, watching her take both Ran and me, soothe away some of that darkness in our souls with the beauty of her own pain.

“Fuck, sweetheart,” Ran gasps, shaking and quivering again as Muse stumbles away and collapses into one of the swivel chairs.  But Lilith and me … we’re not done.

Carefully and quickly, I pull out and toss my condom into the trash, putting a new one on and pulling the sweaty crying girl into my lap.  Because she is crying again, and that’s okay.  She can cry as much as she wants.

I swipe a tear away with my thumb as I pull her onto my shaft, filling the space where Ransom just was and curling my arms around her waist as she rides me.  Those hunter green eyes finally meet mine, searching and tearing through me, asking me what secrets I have to uncover, making me actually want to spill them all.

It’s her next orgasm that finally gets me, her body grasping tight, her face pressed into my neck, hot lips against my pulse.  Her bare breasts smashed up to my chest, I groan and we both end up screaming a little, making so much damn noise that Michael comes storming out of the hall to stare at us.

The look in his eyes … it’s pure hunger.

Release Blitz ~ Stand by AL Jackson ~ Sarah A’s Review

Zachary Kennedy has never been known as a fighter, but he’ll never regret fighting for her…
I’m Zee Kennedy.
Quiet. Reserved. Predictable.
When my brother died, everyone thought I was just the good guy who stepped up to take his place in the band.
No one knew what I was hiding. The one thing I’ve been fighting for.
For seven years, I’ve never lost focus.
Not until one chance encounter with Alexis Kensington.
Now she’s become my greatest temptation.
I knew better than to touch her, but now that I’ve had a taste, I can’t get enough.
Her kiss becomes my air. Her body my salvation.
She needed a savior and somehow she became mine.
Taking her was a betrayal. But keeping her means risking everything.
One look at Alexis Kensington, and I know she’s worth the fight.
Will my past continue to keep me down or will I finally find the strength to pull myself up and Stand.

I feel like I’ve been reading AL Jackson’s Bleeding Stars series forever, yet it’s nowhere near enough time to spend with the boys of Sunder.  Other than Austin’s story, there was no other boy I was more eager to get to spend time with than Zee; he had been such an enigma throughout the entire series I knew his story would be destructive in the best way.

While Zee had always been an important and vital part of the band throughout the Bleeding Stars books, any other knowledge of him was severely limited.  Beyond knowing he had taken his brother’s place in the band and that his loyalty was as fierce as it comes, Zee was an unknown.  His secrets formed a cloud of protection around him which never let anyone, bandmates included, close enough to penetrate.  Getting a glimpse behind the shroud he’d so carefully constructed made my heart break for the boy.  Living with the weight and pain of the past had no doubt crushed Zee to the point he couldn’t see there was more for him than the secrets and lies he so faithfully carried alone.

When all those secrets and his carefully constructed life was threatened by one of the single most wonderful and terrifying things he’d experienced, Zee knew his life wouldn’t, couldn’t be the same.  Watching Zee grapple with the devastation of the secrets of his past being laid bare and having his last tie to his brother potentially being torn away should he make a single misstep, was painful.  He deserved so much more than the life he’d been living, more than keeping the most important part of his life a secret from those people who mattered most to him.

The unraveling of the past and present and each of the secrets that Zee held was masterful.  I loved how AL Jackson was able to bring her story full circle and weave those final moments of Mark’s life and what happened between them into a bright new beginning for Zee.  It was beautiful to see how Alexis played such a vital role in Zee rediscovering his own life, rather than continuing to live the half-life he’d been living in order to keep everyone else happy.  Alexis’s entrance in to Zee’s life, while spine-chilling, was one of the most impactful things a person could experience.  I’m very glad AL Jackson wrote it the way she did, because I’m not sure that a less intense experience would have been enough to knock Zee’s world off balance enough for him to see he needed more than he was allowing himself.

While I am sad to be saying goodbye to this world and the boys of Sunder, I am glad AL Jackson sent them off the way she did.  I loved getting to check in with all of them one final time and see they’d found all the love and happiness they needed and deserved.  These boys and their families will always hold a special place in my heart and I am thankful to Ms. Jackson for bringing their stories to life and sharing their souls with the world.
