Cover Reveal-Maybe In Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

We’re dreaming of summer—feet in the sand, soaking up the sun, taking a dip in the pool—but what we’re most excited about this summer is the release of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s third novel, MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE (on sale July 7, 2015). While we (impatiently!) wait for the book, today we’re giving you a first look at the gorgeous cover! Plenty more information below…

At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college, but on the heels of a disastrous breakup, she has finally returned to her hometown of Los Angeles. To celebrate her first night back, her best friend, Gabby, takes Hannah out to a bar—where she meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.

It’s just past midnight when Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go. Ethan quickly offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay.

Hannah hesitates.

What happens if she leaves with Gabby?

What happens if she leaves with Ethan?

In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into surprisingly different stories with far-reaching consequences for Hannah and the people around her, raising questions like: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate?

Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she believes she’s found him.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is an author and essayist from Acton, Massachusetts. She is the author of Forever, Interrupted and After I Do. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Alex, and her dog, Rabbit.

If Laney could erase that whole year, she would. College is her chance to start with a clean slate.

She’s not looking for new friends, but they find her: charming, handsome Armin, the only guy patient enough to work through her thorny defenses—and fiery, filterless Blythe, the bad girl and partner in crime who has thorns of her own.

But Laney knows nothing good ever lasts. When a ghost from her past resurfaces—the bully who broke her down completely—she decides it’s time to live up to her own legend. And Armin and Blythe are going to help.

Which was the plan all along.

She’s going to show them all.

BLACK IRIS by Leah Raeder

April is the cruelest month, T.S. Eliot said, and that’s because it kills. It’s the month with the highest suicide rate. You’d think December, or even January—the holidays and all that forced cheer and agonized smiling pushing fragile people to the edge—but actually it’s spring, when the world wakes from frostbound sleep and something cruel and final stirs inside those of us who are broken. Like Eliot said: mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain. In the deepest throes of depression, when sunlight is anguish and the sky throbs like one big raw migraine and you just want to sleep until you or everything else dies, you’re less likely to commit suicide than someone coming out of a depressive episode. Drug companies know this. That’s why antidepressants have to be marked with the warning MAY CAUSE SUICIDAL THOUGHTS.

Because what brings you back to life also gives you the means to destroy yourself.

The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

Patricia’s Review

Jane’s Harmony picks up where Jane’s Melody left off with Caleb and Jane adjusting to the Austin life together. While Caleb was content having Jane back in his life, Jane struggled with the cramped space of the tiny apartment, thin walls, and the constant lights and music of Austin nightlife. But Caleb was determined not to let anything get in the way of his and Jane’s happiness. When an unexpected opportunity with the power to change everything for Caleb and Jane presents itself, the newly rediscovered happiness hits a bump in the road. Their relationship will be tested by time constraints, distance, some unwanted attention and an overwhelming surprise. When push comes to shove, each must decide whether they are strong enough to face whatever may come their way together.

I was so thrilled to spend more time with Caleb and Jane. At the end of Jane’s Harmony, I felt like there was more to their story and I am grateful Ryan felt the same way. It was good to see these two reunite and overcome some of the normal obstacles of a new/budding relationship. I enjoyed watching their story unfold taking twists and turns that had me laughing at one moment and holding my breath the next.

Caleb seemed more content with his life since he moved to Austin. He worked hard at his day job and even harder on his music. But he never made Jane feel second to any of those things and I fell even more in love with him and his thoughtful gestures and tender ways. He never missed an opportunity to observe others and find the next inspiration for his music. But he remained humbled and grounded, always mindful of where he had come from, where he wanted to be and the woman who owned his heart.

Jane seemed to come alive in her new surroundings. She grappled with her insecurities about where she was in her life, but I suppose those kind of drastic life changes make you vulnerable to doubt. I loved seeing her personality take flight and I laughed out loud on more than one occasion thanks to Jane. The uniform blunder was priceless, never mind the coffee grounds. I admired how supportive she was of Caleb and never wavered in showing him with her actions just how much she believed in him.

The dual POV added depth to the characters and allowed for a well-rounded reading experience. The angst was minimal save one very intense section that had me holding my breath. There was just the right mix of sweet, sexy, funny and drama to keep me engaged throughout the story. I love the realistic ending…a humble ending that seemed fitting for Caleb. My only hitch is that I felt there was unresolved family matters. Otherwise, I loved this story and am sad to say good-bye.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

 Patricia’s Review

 “It’s Intense. It’s heartbreaking. It’s devastating.”

Ugly Love is unique in that there is a story within the story that covers two timelines: present day and 6 years prior, as told from two points of view – Tate and Miles, respectively. The alternating timeline adds depth to the characters, intensity to the plot and the unfolding of the story was simply brilliant.

The story immediately draws you in with the legendary first meeting of Tate and Miles. It may not have been memorable for Miles, but Tate made a profound observation that would keep me engaged for the duration of the story.

“I don’t even know the guy, but the obvious devastation he’s experiencing is difficult to witness.”

The kind of agonizing emotion Miles exhibits is that of someone whose world has been wrecked. But the circumstance of that breakdown is not something he is willing to discuss. In fact, he is not much of a talker period. And so the brooding soul that is Miles quickly seeps into Tate’s every thought.

“That’s how it is when a person develops an attraction toward someone. He’s nowhere, then suddenly he’s everywhere, whether you want him to be or not.”

As they navigate their arrangement, it becomes increasingly difficult to be truly satisfied with no strings attached. Tate struggles to adhere to the rules Miles laid out in the beginning: never ask about the past and don’t expect a future. But she is inextricably drawn to Miles and the desire to be with him far outweighs the insignificant feeling that overcomes her with each casual dismissal.

And yet she trudges on, pushing the rules until lines blur, tensions mount, hearts fracture and things get ugly.

UL Teaser2

I was conflicted with my views about Tate. On one hand I was disappointed that she would willingly continue with the arrangement when Miles was so blatantly indifferent towards her. On the other hand I wanted her to keep pushing in the hopes that Miles would eventually bend the rules if not break them all together. Perhaps that is just the hopeless romantic in me who wants to believe that love conquers all.

From the beginning, it was clear the devastation Miles experienced was the kind from which you never fully recover. As each chapter of his life unfolded, we saw glimpses of the man he was before it all turned sad. While I was angry with him at times for the way he treated Tate, I loved the incredibly thoughtful side he gave us glimpses of on occasion. It was evident Miles was drawn to Tate, anchored to her as if she was a life raft in his turbulent world. Miles’s story was captivating and overwhelming and my heart ached for him.

I absolutely love that Colleen Hoover stepped outside the box with Ugly Love. She has given us a story that is full of emotion but so very different from her previous books. However, she stayed true to her reputation of writing characters that are real and a story that is both compelling and powerful. The story is laced with Colleen’s humor and wit but the emotional response this story elicited far exceeded my expectations. Brace yourself for the emotional rollercoaster that will ensue while reading.

The highlighting in my kindle alone should validate my love for this story. But there is so much more to it than the written words that jumped out at me from the page. It’s in the connection I felt to Tate in the way that a kindred spirit would identify. It’s in the overwhelming emotion that stirred within me from Miles revelation. It’s in the havoc that was wreaked on my heart as I took this journey with Miles and Tate. And it’s in the fullness in my heart from this beautiful story.

BLOG TOUR DUAL REVIEW & GIVEAWAY – Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire

Atria Books | 336 pages | Paperback ISBN 9781476759586 | eBook ISBN: ISBN 9781476759593 | On Sale: July 1, 2014

The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

Fiercely independent Camille “Cami” Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.

Cashmere Comfortable

Patricia’s Review

This story has the perfect mix of elements to capture your attention and keep you enthralled page after page. Start with a Maddox boy, add a girl with a fierce attitude and a smart mouth, throw in some family drama, undeniable chemistry, topped with a looming secret and you have one masterminded read. Look out Travis – there is another Maddox boy in town that will have the ladies swooning!

Cami’s home life has been a disappointment at best. With an overbearing father wreaking havoc at home, she moved out as soon as possible to escape the heartache left in the wake of his rages. She finds comfort in making her own rules and enjoys the simplicity of living for herself. With her boyfriend, T.J., clear across the country and not exactly available, Cami finds herself drawn to the charms of Trent Maddox. Sure he is a Maddox boy and with that comes a reputation; but Cami can’t shake the smile he leaves on her face or the longing for more of the way Trent makes her feel.

“He had the best worst effect on me. As if everything I was-and wasn’t-was desirable. I didn’t even have to try. Trenton’s unrepentant appreciation for everything he knew about me was addictive. I found myself wanting more…”

Trent is a Maddox boy, through and through. He has the tats, the looks, the temper and the moves to prove it. Behind the tough exterior is a less abrasive side that is reserved for only a select few, namely Cami. He gives her the attention she craves and the support she needs when family drama becomes more than anyone should have to tolerate. Trent’s unwavering pursuit proves to be effective as Cami finds herself succumbing to his charms.

“I thought from the moment Trenton had sat at my table at the Red that I could handle whatever her threw my way, but he was like quicksand. The more I struggled, the deeper I sank.”

The more time Cami spends with Trent, the less time she spends thinking about and missing her boyfriend. One searing kiss from Trent is all it takes for Cami to question not only her relationship with T.J. but the feelings she has developed for Trent.

“I had never in my life been kissed like that, and something told me that wasn’t even the best Trenton Maddox could do.”

Cami’s refusal to acknowledge the chemistry between them and the feelings that kiss stirred up only provokes Trent to force her to see that they are more than friends. When Cami discloses the indiscretion to T.J., he promptly puts her on a plane to California. It’s the first time that T.J. makes any sincere effort with the relationship.

Will their reunion remind Cami why she fell in love with T.J. or is it too little too late? As she contemplates the secret she pledged to keep and the feelings Trent has aroused, she must decide whether to follow her heart or her conscience. Sometimes we have to make all the wrong decisions before we figure out the right one.

“I’ve had a lifetime of wrong. You’re the only thing that’s right.”

If we’ve learned anything about Maddox boys, it’s that they don’t go down without a fight. Trent’s pursuit was relentless and I adored him for being so persistent. He fought dirty and by dirty I mean the sweet and endearing kind of fight that makes you swoon because you can’t help but fall for that guy. At times he fit the Maddox mold to a T but plenty of other times he was just a guy that said and did all the things that made him boyfriend material.

Now, I have a confession to make. I was not on the Travis Maddox band wagon simply because I was a late comer to the indie world. So I decided to read Beautiful Disaster concurrently with Beautiful Oblivion. I enjoyed that the stories ran in parallel and there were glimpses of the characters across both stories. While there are similarities in the stories and even in the characters, I submit that is par for the course…they are brothers and they have a bit of a reputation. Just don’t ask me which Maddox brother I prefer…even if I wanted to, I could not choose.

I admired Cami on so many levels. From the courageous way she took control of her life at such a young age to the selfless way she looked out for her brothers. She was a genuinely good person that did not take crap from anyone. Her banter with Trent was humorous and I found myself smiling frequently when reading their exchanges. She was a bit wishy-washy at times, but that is common for someone her age. At 19 you are supposed to make choices and figure out things. But she had also lived a sheltered childhood with a controlling father. It was good to see her finally come out of her shell and really start to live. All it took was a little coaxing from a charming Maddox boy.

That conclusion…I did not see that coming.  I was honestly stupefied by the last three words and I applaud Mrs. McGuire on a job well done.  This girl is a new Maddox lover and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment in the Maddox Brother’s series.

Trent To Bed

Sarah’s Review

I absolutely love everything that Jamie McGuire writes and I have been anxiously awaiting Trent’s story! I fell deeply in love with Travis in Beautiful Disaster and now she has me swooning over Trent in Beautiful Oblivion.

After dropping out of college at ESU because of a tragic accident that left him with a tremendous amount of guilt on his shoulders, Trent is now living at home with his father, and working at the local Tattoo shop, Skin Deep. Just like his younger brother Travis, Trent is quite the ladies man and is always taking a new girl home with him.

Camille “Cami” Camlin has been working since she was a teenager hoping to move out of her childhood home as soon as possible. Cami is now a Sophomore at ESU and is happily living the college life by attending classes and working as a bartender at the local hotspot, The Red Door. When Cami gets a phone call from her boyfriend saying he has to cancel their weekend plans she decides to go to the Red Door and hang out with her friends and unwind a little bit.

While at the Red Door Cami is a bit surprised when Trent Maddox walks up to her table and starts to flirt with her. She has known him most of her life and he has never shown any interest in her. We all know how hard it is to resist a Maddox brother, and Cami finds herself falling quickly for Trent.

“You can borrow me anytime. I’m perfect for sweater weather.”

“Be careful. I might hold you to that.”

“Don’t threaten me with a good time.”

Trent is relentless in his attempts to spend time with Cami but she is hesitant because she has a boyfriend. He gets under her skin and they become close friends very quickly. He tries to prove to her that she needs someone who wants to spend as much time with her as possible. Will Cami be able to resist the Maddox charm and stay faithful to T.J.?

I loved the chemistry between Cami and Trent. Cami is a little spitfire who doesn’t take crap from anyone. Trent is a Maddox which means he will fight for what he wants and will never back down. Even though this story is told from Cami’s POV I felt like we got a good glimpse into Trent’s thoughts. I loved the supporting characters and their relationships with Trent and Cami.  As much as I loved getting to revisit Travis and Abby I was a little disappointed that this story ran parallel to Beautiful Disaster. I would have liked to see Trent and Cami have their own story as I better connected with them during the scenes that didn’t run parallel to Beautiful Disaster. I was also hoping that all of the family issues Cami was having would have been resolved by the end of the book as it seemed to be a large part of their story. I can’t wait to read the next Maddox brother book!
