NOW AVAILABLE!! Evermore by Corinne Michaels ~ Sarah A’s Review

From New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels, comes EVERMORE, a new novella in her Salvation Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Corinne Michaels comes a new story in her Salvation series…

I was poised to become partner at my law firm even before I became secretly engaged to my boss. After being humiliated by him on my wedding day, I can’t face working for him any longer. So I quit, waving my middle finger on my way out.

Now the only things I’m poised for are unemployment and loneliness.

When an opportunity with Cole Security arises, it seems like the perfect way to run, all the way to Virginia Beach. I wasn’t expecting my childhood sweetheart to be there. I definitely wasn’t prepared that when we saw each other again, Benjamin Pryce would be so grown-up. So gorgeous. So Navy SEAL-ish.

And still the same guy who broke my heart when I was fifteen–and could do it again.

They say if you’re fooled once, shame on them. The second time, it’s on you. The third time, it’s going to be me that runs… unless he can convince me to stay forevermore.

Amazon

Did Corinne Michaels write this?  Nobody even died.  I kid.  On a serious note, though, Evermore was a fantastic re-entry to the Salvation world.  It’s been a minute since I’d read any of the books and while I did remember the broad strokes, it was good to have the refresher of who everyone was and how they all connected.  Gretchen and Ben’s relationship was adorable and I’m so happy we got to know their story.

I’m a sucker for a good second-chance romance, especially one that began when they were just children and their first chance at love ended before it ever really started.  Gretchen and Ben had such fantastic chemistry from the beginning, from the first second they reconnected the connection they shared was palpable.  They had both been damaged by the people who should have cared for them most in the past; their reunion seemed fated.

I loved both Gretchen and Ben, and how they supported one another.  The damages that had been done to them by their exes was profound and watching them slowly piece each of their broken parts back together.  Their love was so pure and true; it was a thing of beauty to see them rediscover and nurture it into something vital and healing.

Evermore is a novella in Corinne Michaels’ Salvation series; it would most likely be billed as book 5.5.  The Salvation series is a series of two duets and a standalone, which are all interconnected.  The duets must be read in order, but otherwise, the stories don’t have to be read in order.  Evermore is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Gretchen and Ben.

“What do you mean you’re not coming?” I scream into the receiver at my what-should-be husband.

“I can’t marry you,” Harold tells me.

My eyes fill with angry tears. “You decided this now?” I shriek.

It’s my wedding day.

Well, it was supposed to be. Harold—which is the worst name in existence when you’re in the throes of passion—apparently has decided it won’t be.

An hour late, I might add. I’m here, at the church, in my nine-thousand-dollar wedding dress that I saved for. Without a groom.

I’m going to kill him.

My voice drops eerily soft. “Whatever the hell the issue is, we can deal with it tomorrow, Harold. You can’t do this to me. You get your ass to this church and you marry me.”

He sighs. “I can’t do it. I can’t, Gretchen. I had an epiphany last night.”

An epiphany? How rich. “Was it that you’re a dickhead who was going to destroy the woman who stood by you the last seven-fucking-years?”

“I’m saving you.”

Now I’ve heard it all. “Saving me, my ass!” I scream. “You will not do this to me. You won’t make me a jilted bride! I won’t let you.” My two best friends, Catherine and Ashton, share a look as they stand in their rose gold colored bridesmaids dresses.

Harold goes silent and then I hear someone in the back. “It’s for the better. We never should’ve done this. You’re my associate at the firm and if we do this, it will destroy both of our careers.”

A tear falls down. I’m so angry. I’m so betrayed by him. Seven years we’ve been sneaking around. I was his “Secret Slut” as I called myself. At first it was exciting. The sneaking around, late-night office romps, the little touches we’d share knowing that later we wouldn’t have to slow down.

Then it became impossible. I wanted to go to him when a case went bad, but I couldn’t because he was my boss. Gossip in the office became much more than harmless chatter, so we pulled back even more.

Finally, two months ago, he’d had enough of me complaining and threatening to end things. He proposed and said he wanted to marry me immediately. That if we were married, I could take equal part in the firm and finally stop having to hide our relationship.

My chest rises and falls because now, there’s no going back. People know. People are here to witness this, and now I’ll be the “left-at-the-alter lawyer.”

New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestseller Corinne Michaels is the author of nine romance novels. She’s an emotional, witty, sarcastic, and fun loving mom of two beautiful children. Corinne is happily married to the man of her dreams and is a former Navy wife.

NEW RELEASE!! Lost and Found by Lexi Blake ~ Sarah A’s Review

Owen Shaw and his “brothers” lost everything, their entire existence erased. Science had robbed he and all the Lost Boys of their memories and their past, but not their future. Hunted by every intelligence agency in the world, they are focused on two goals: find a cure for what was done to them and ensure that the technology that ruined their lives doesn’t get out into the world. Rebecca Walsh might be the key to achieving both. Owen has been studying her closely, living in her building, and he cannot resolve how such a beautiful, giving woman could have helped design the evil process that destroyed his past.

Dr. Rebecca Walsh has dedicated her life to researching the secrets of the mind. Her atmospheric rise in her field was fueled by the horror of watching her mother’s agonizing journey into madness at the hands of a disease with no cure. She vowed to never rest until she finds it. But obsession takes a heavy toll, and when Owen moves into her building she realizes how much of her life she has missed out on. Owen opens her eyes to a whole new world, filled with joy, laughter, and possibly love.

Owen and Rebecca grow closer, unraveling more about each other and the mysteries surrounding her connection to Hope McDonald. As the sinister forces working against the Lost Boys descend on Toronto, secrets long buried are uncovered that could shatter the bonds holding the Lost Boys together and cost Rebecca her life.

First things first, if this had been any other author, I wouldn’t have even given the book a second look.  The cover is not great, and not at all indicative of what’s contained within the pages.  Lexi Blake is what drew me to this book and her unique ability to weave incredible romances into intense suspense novels, while also giving them an appropriate and natural BDSM flavor.  Lost and Found delivered on each front and added unexpected richness into the saga of the Lost Boys.

The Lost Boys have been fascinating to me since I first learned of them, when I found out we were going to meet someone who might have some insight into what was happening in Hope McDonald’s labs, I was ecstatic.  While Lost and Found didn’t quite give me the enlightenment I was hoping for, it was full of revelations and incredible connections.  I was so blown away by all of the insanity that was going on both in what the guys had experienced in the past and the lengths the forces conspiring against them in the present were going to.

Owen and Rebecca’s chemistry and connection was immediate and consuming.  I loved their meet-cute, and I don’t think their relationship would have felt as solid or real if they hadn’t experienced that intimate and intense.  I loved that Rebecca made him work for it, that she protected herself and made sure she wasn’t mistaking sexual tension for real feelings.  Owen and Rebecca were great together and pushed one another outside of their heads and to be more than they thought they could be.

Lost and Found is the second book in Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries: the Forgotten series.  The series is a spinoff from the Masters and Mercenaries series, but that series doesn’t have to be read before reading these books.  I do think reading the first book in this spinoff series is necessary to the understanding of Lost and Found since there is so much that carries over from that book.  Lost and Found is written in limited third-person perspective, alternatively following Rebecca and Owen’s thoughts.

“Becca.” Owen’s voice was low. “Concentrate on me, on our conversation. You’ve done incredibly well. You’ve been able to hold it off, but this has gone on far longer than you ever should have been expected to handle it. This elevator is tight. I feel it, too, but we can hold off the anxiety together.”

She doubted very much the man in front of her was anxious. He looked solid, like the kind of man who took whatever came his way and simply dealt with it. He wouldn’t have needed two freaking years to figure out what he wanted. He would have signed his divorce papers and moved on, not hiding in his work.

It struck her forcibly that she might never have met a man like Owen Shaw. Her childhood had been fairly sheltered. She’d constantly been surrounded by intellectuals, men and women who were far more concerned with their work than anything else.

The ground beneath her shifted and the elevator dropped what felt like ten feet, but she knew in her head it was mere inches. Her heart rate tripled, and she grabbed on to the closest thing she could—him.

His arms went around her, holding her up, and she heard it. He was so tall that her head naturally rested on his chest, and she could hear his heart beating in rapid time.

He was nervous.

The phone rang and Owen cursed, reaching out to grab it. The shaft was so small, he didn’t have to let her go to grasp it.

“What the bloody hell is happening, Colin?”

She could hear his voice over the line. “Sorry. So sorry. We had to lower the shaft the tiniest bit. I should have warned you. It’s not going to fall. Just needed to reposition to get to the problem. Not long now. Another half an hour or so and I’ll have you right out of there.”

“If you do that again, do you know what I’m going to do to you, Colin?”

There was a pause over the line and she could practically hear Colin’s gulp. “Write my father a tersely worded letter of complaint?”

“No, I’m going to pull your heart out through your throat and then I’ll shove it back up your arse.”

“You sound very much like Liam Neeson in that movie.”

“Liam Neeson is Irish. I’m a Scot. I assure you what I’ll do to you will make you run into Liam Neeson’s arms and beg him to save you.” He reached back and hung up the phone with a resounding clang.

His arm went back around her. “It’s going to be all right. They’ll move faster now. So you’ve taken a sabbatical from men.”

She breathed him in, loving how he smelled. Were men supposed to smell so good?

She could feel herself relax as he held her. She’d known him for three hours. She shouldn’t let him hold her like this.

And why the fuck not? Because it wasn’t smart? Because he might think she wanted something she shouldn’t?

She was human. Why shouldn’t she want him? Because society told her that good girls didn’t make out with guys they’d just met in an elevator?

Society sucked, and she wasn’t a good girl. When her husband had tried to put his name on her work, she’d told him to fuck off and write his own paper. When he’d cheated on her, she’d walked away.

She was single.

God, was he single?

She stepped back.

“What’s wrong?” Owen asked.

“Do you have a girlfriend?”

His lips curled up in the sweetest grin, as though he knew exactly why she was asking that question. “No, love. I don’t have a girlfriend and I don’t have a wife.”

He was single. She was single.

The moment lengthened between them.

He stepped back. “I’m sorry. I’m coming on way too strong.”

He wasn’t. He’d been gentlemanly, friendly. Up until the last couple of moments, he hadn’t put a hand on her or leered. She could feel his attraction. It was there in the warm way he looked at her, in the set of his shoulders, relaxed earlier and tense now that he’d touched her. He was thinking about the same thing she was.

“I’m very nervous, Owen. My logical mind knows that it’s far more likely for me to die getting hit by lightning than in an elevator, even one that’s stuck.” Unfortunately, her logical mind was slowly losing control of her dumbass lizard brain.

“Will talking help?” Owen asked. “Because I’m willing to do that. Or whatever you need to take your mind off things.”

There was a wealth of promise in those words. Dirty and sweet at the same time. They’d shared her wine, passing it back and forth between them, her lips touching the same place his had been moments before. When she’d drank after him, she’d thought about kissing him.

It had been too long. Two years was way too long to go without sex.

They had a half an hour or so. At least that’s what Colin—who might be murdered soon by Owen Shaw—said. She even thought his name was sexy.

What exactly would it hurt if she did kiss him? If she touched him and let him touch her? Hell, what would it hurt if she fucked him? They were both single, both a little needy. They had some time to kill. They’d done everything else.

“I would like to kiss you.” If he didn’t want her to, he could say no and they could find something else to do. She wasn’t going to be embarrassed because some guy didn’t want her. Some stunningly gorgeous guy. Some really funny, sexy guy. After all, she wouldn’t see him after this. She’d never seen him before. He’d told her he was moving in, but she went into work early and came home late. He was a bodyguard, so he likely worked odd hours and traveled a lot.

He was safe. She could open that door, enjoy herself, and then close it again. Owen Shaw could be her first really good memory in a long time, the start of many because it was time to get serious about finding some joy and balance in her life.

But only if he wanted some joy, too.

He moved back, placing his back against the elevator wall, the sweetest smile lighting up his face. “You have no idea how much I want you to kiss me. I’m right here, love. Do your worst.”

He was letting her make the first move. And probably the second. And the third. He was obviously a careful man. It would be easier if he took over, but he was right. This needed to be her choice, and she had to make the move.

She’d been the girl who’d told her parents at the age of five that kindergarten was boring and she wanted to move through the grades until she found something challenging. When they’d told her they wanted her to slow down and enjoy her childhood, she’d gone on strike until the teachers at her school begged her parents to let them move her up.

She was the girl who’d put it all on hold to take care of her mother, too.

She wasn’t the girl who didn’t take what she wanted, and she wanted Owen Shaw.

“It’s been a long time since I did this.” But her body was already heating up. Her body remembered. Her marriage might have sucked, but the sex had been fairly good. It had been the reason she’d married him. She’d gotten used to regular, good sex.

She’d get used to it again, just on her terms this time.

“Somehow, I think you’ll remember,” he said. “You play all you like. Stop when you want to.”

She’d been right about him. He was a careful man. “And if I don’t want to stop?”

“Then you should be happy I’m a man who believes in being prepared.”

NOW LIVE!! PRIDE by JD Hollyfield ~Sarah A’s Review

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.

But who said the devil was a he?

In my world, she was out to cause havoc on all our lives.

She’ll use the one thing I care most about to control me—force me into her Elite world, filled with sin, deceit, and power. And under her spell, I’ll lead a sinister brotherhood of seven at one of the most prestigious universities in New Orleans.

Seven tasks set forth by the devil herself, promising nothing less than the forbidden fruit of power. What they don’t understand is it will all end in bloodshed and regret.

They call me the alpha. The one in charge. The one with pride bigger than any task I could be given. And my pride won’t let me be anywhere but at the top of the food chain until she gives me what I truly want.

My task is Meghan Thorne.

She’s too pure for me to touch, too good for me to ruin—and the only thing standing in my way to freedom.

Accept your sin wisely, for the tasks given to earn your place are not for the weak…they’re for The Elite.

As they say, pride comes before the fall.

I am Mason Blackwell.

I am Pride.

***  AVAILABLE IN KINDLE UNLIMITED  ***
Amazon

Pride was a trilling second-installment of The Elite Seven series.  I was glued to the pages from the second I picked I picked it up until the minute I finished.  Pride flawlessly pike up where Lust left off and continued to wrap this reader up in the intense and secretive world of St. Augustine and The Elite.  This world has been so richly developed and the characters so dimensional; I can’t help but ravenously anticipate the next book, Wrath.

Much like the previous book in this series, Lust, the romantic storyline of Pride took a bit of a backseat to what was going on with The Elite, all of the intricacies of Mason’s past, and the all the secrets and lies within all of that.  As more and more layers were uncovered about the society, I felt myself becoming obsessed with discovering any clues in the novels and figuring out the master plan of whoever is pulling the strings.

I wasn’t sure about Megan and Mason when they first met, especially considering the forbidden nature of their relationship and the things that were being asked of Mason, but as things went on and they actually started to get to know one another, I began to understand what drew them together.  Megan provided a stability and support system Mason desperately needed, and Mason gave  Megan a safe place to be herself and showed her she was more than the perfect princess her world had molded her into.

Pride is the second book in The Elite Seven series from various authors.  Despite each book focusing on a different main character, these books need to be read in order because there is an overarching storyline about the Elite secret society and knowing the details in each book is imperative for understanding that.  Pride is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Megan and Mason.

I rarely pick up new-to-me authors because I’ve been burned by lackluster writing and poor editing in the past.  However, the premise of this series was so fascinating to me, and I have read a couple of the authors writing within the world, I knew I had to give the authors I hadn’t read a chance, too.  I was absolutely won over by JD Hollyfield’s work in this Pride.  The story was intense and well-paced, the writing was engrossing and well-done, and I will definitely be putting Ms. Hollyfield on my list of authors to watch.

I was born with wealth, athletic ability, and looks that could melt the panties off a nun.
I had a clear path to success.
Until fate dealt me a cruel blow, leaving me empty and in need of purpose.
My only focus now is to become part of The Elite—a secret society in one of the most prestigious colleges in the world.
But everything comes at a price, and with The Elite, you have to earn your place.
Lucky for me, being sinful is in my DNA.
The only obstacle to full initiation is my task: seduce the un-seducible, the forbidden, and lure her with the sins of the flesh.
Easy for a man like me…in theory.
She started as my task, but what happens when the lines between lust and love blur, and the need for power rages war with the need for her?
Accept your sin wisely, for the tasks given to earn your place are not for the weak—they’re for The Elite.
This is my life, my chance, my legacy.
I am Rhett Masters.
I am Lust.

WRATH by Claire C. Riley Releasing March 11th

It was temptation that broke the sinner.

People say I have everything.
They’re wrong.
I may have looks, money, and privilege, but I don’t have the one thing that really matters, the one thing I crave: a woman with eyes only for me.
I’m searching for my woman—one who will fall to her knees because I’m her king. She’ll wear the crown of my tarnished name, and long for me when I’m not near. And when I am close, she’ll be naked across my lap, feeling the sting of my palm across her milky skin.
You could say I’m a sinner because I’d do anything to have the perfect woman—compliant to my every need and whim—and I’m envious of every couple who walks around naive to the luxury they have.

That’s why I joined The Elite, the most prestigious brotherhood in the south.
It’s the one place that will give me what I cannot have.

The Elite Seven

Since 1942, The Elite Seven Society have created and guided influential leaders, molding the country into something better. This society was birthed by Malcom Benedict, II who wanted more for Americans. More wealth. More influence. More power. Some leaders have the skills, but not the influence, and that simply wasn’t fair according to Mr. Benedict. He invested his own money and time to construct a society that bred the best of the best, year after year.

But to be the best, you must be ruthless.

Good leaders make sacrifices. Sometimes the sacrifices are hard, but the rewards are plentiful. Mr. Benedict made sure to indulge these leaders with their utmost desires. A devout Catholic himself, he designed a society that rewarded his leaders with the sins that were frowned upon. If they were giving up love and happiness and joy for the betterment of the country, they deserved something in its stead.

Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, and Lust.

Choosing leaders for this society means that it takes intense focus. Only seven are to be selected, and the investments and time are showered upon the new seven chosen every four years. The predecessors of each group of seven choose people who fit the sin that will mold them into who they are needed to be in the future—what America needs them to be. This is after a detailed study of many potential candidates. The university’s acting dean behaves as a liaison for the society bringing the college applicants to the predecessors so that the selection may begin. The society members who are going out will bring forth a candidate that the society votes on and approves.

After they are chosen, the initiates are given a token and an invitation to initiation. The initiation will be a test to their character and ability to do what’s right for the betterment of the society. Once the initiates pass their test, they are discreetly branded with the mark of the society, and are groomed through challenges during the course of their elite education to breed them into the influential people they were meant to be.

Once in The Elite Seven, there is no getting out. The money and power are their reward. Should they choose to stray or break the rules, the society strips them of everything. Anything they once had will be removed. Opportunities will never arise. They will no longer have the support of the society. To this day, there have been no known occurrences of anyone from the society having to be banished. This elite group of people are what every young man and woman aspire to be a part of. While the group is a secret society, they are whispered about amongst the privileged folks in the country. Anyone who is anyone knows of the group and secretly hopes it’s their son or daughter who are selected, for good fortune is showered on the family for decades to come.

NEW RELEASE!! When August Ends by Penelope Ward ~ Sarah A’s Revew

What do you do when a sexy, older man moves into your family’s summer rental?

Well, apparently, you make a fool of yourself—over and over. Things didn’t exactly get off on the right foot with Noah Cavallari. Our first encounter was embarrassing, to say the least.

But despite that, I found myself waking up every day with a newfound energy. Nothing exciting ever happened on the lake—not until Noah moved into the small boathouse on our property. He’d booked it for the entire summer…and I was still trying to figure out why.

When my mother became ill, I inherited the responsibility of making sure our guests were well taken care of. I should have been in college. Instead, I was living my best life…as a maid.

Dark, handsome, and mysterious, everything about Noah screamed forbidden.

I knew he was just passing through town for the summer.

I knew he was probably too old for me.

Yet, I was drawn to him.

Not to mention, he tried to save my life when he mistakenly thought I was drowning.

I wanted him and made no secret of it.

His own attempts to warn me away soon gave way to late-night moonlight chats by the lake. We were slowly easing into a friendship that was gearing up to explode into something I might not recover from.

Because he’s leaving at the end of the summer.

And I have no idea what I’ll do when August ends.

Amazon | B&N | Apple | Kobo | GooglePlay | Audible

One thing I consistently say about Penelope Ward’s books is how much more emotionally draining they are than their blurbs might lend you to believe.  When August Ends did not disappoint in that.  I was brought to the edge of tears – both happy and sad – on more than one occasion while reading.  Heather and Noah’s story took me on an emotional rollercoaster, that was frustrating at times, but ultimately incredibly satisfying.

Heather’s awkward naivete and confidence almost immediately enraptured me.  She was such an enigma, her youth often showed in her lack of finesse, but then in the next moment the maturity thrust upon her by the things she’d experienced would be at the forefront.  Heather was a fascinating character and utterly irresistible.  I was impressed by the way she went after what she wanted, and when things didn’t work out how she’d hoped, instead of avoiding everything she held her head high and persevered.  She had incredible strength and sensibility beyond the years of her life.

When August Ends was the epitome of a satisfying slow-burn romance, Heather may have tried to make her moves on Noah from the beginning, but after he rejected her advances, they built a solid and meaningful friendship.  The attraction they were both so obviously feeling took a backseat to developing trust and companionship, so when they finally took that step into more, it felt vital and real.  It was more than lust and attraction; it was the essential next step into their future.  As much as I would have loved for their romance to have started on page one, making them – and the readers – wait made the entire experience more poignant.

I loved Noah for the way he was with Heather, especially when he was actively avoiding and rejecting her advances.  He could have easily been cruel and squashed her spirit, but he was thoughtful and direct.  He left no room for interpretation of what he wanted – or didn’t want in this case – but he wasn’t demeaning, and that said a lot about his character.  The more we learned about him, the more obvious it was that the way he handled Heater wasn’t a fluke, he was considerate and kind, even when he believed himself something different.  He was exactly the mix of kind and straightforward Heather needed.

When August Ends, for all the levity that was injected into it by way of Heather and Noah’s banter, dealt with some pretty heavy subject matter.  I loved that Penelope Ward didn’t use those themes as arbitrary plot devices, but rather just life moments that Heather and Noah lived through and learned from.  They were never things that happened to them; they were things that moved them forward.  The heavy themes were dealt with thoughtfully and respectfully, and I greatly appreciated that.

Penelope Ward is a New York Times, USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal Bestselling author of thirteen novels. NEW RELEASE!! With This Lie by Kat Savage ~ Sarah A’s Review

Dani Monroe is more than just another jaded woman. Her veins run deep with every reason to never fall in love. If her mother taught her anything, it was how easily a betrayal is earned. After a childhood spent learning that lesson, it’s the only truth she knows. Now, as a woman with needs, she strictly dates married men. She knows what she is getting with them—all of the fun and none of the feelings—and that’s how she likes it.

Lucas Kane has only ever been in love once. Disloyalty followed soon after and he wants no part of “a future” with anyone ever again. But having the same conversation with different women became redundant. So he slipped on a wedding ring, and soon realized there were many women out there very attracted to married men. Those same women asked no questions when it came time to say goodbye. So he carries on like this—faking a married life and fooling around.

A chance encounter brings the two together and while it sounds like a match made in heaven, both are leery, with cynical hearts. What happens when two people hell-bent on avoiding love find themselves falling? How many lies have they told? Will the truth set them free, or rip them apart?

***  AVAILABLE IN KINDLE UNLIMITED  ***
Amazon | Signed Paperback

Kat Savage is a new to me author, one I decided to read at the suggestion of an author whose work is beautiful and emotionally exhausting – just like I like my books – so I assumed I was in good hands.  And I was.  With This Lie wasn’t a particularly long read, just over three hours, but it put me through the wringer in the best possible way.  I was immediately pulled into Dani’s story – and Lucas’ – and couldn’t bear to leave a single stone of their story together unturned.

The premise of With This Lie is not for everyone; in fact, it’s a hardline for tons of readers, but I’m sure that, if those taboo details of how Dani – and Lucas, to an extent – conducted their personal lives were overlooked and forgiven, the hurt, hope, and healing we find in this book would soften the hardest of hearts.  The idea of cheating may have been the instigation of Dani and Lucas’ relationship, but it was far from what was actually going on between them.  Their unusual circumstances gave them the safety and security they both required to explore their connection.

Most of With This Lie was bittersweet.  There was an air of melancholy throughout the novel, even in the happiest moments.  The inevitability of their situation colored each second of Dani and Lucas’ relationship.  Add to that Lucas’ secret and their pasts, and there was a pervasive darkness that permeated every page of With This Lie.  There was a richness in the word that made the storm clouds looming over Dani and Lucas feel palpable throughout each page of the book.

Kat Savage’s unique brand of storytelling combines some of her own truths with a little bit of fiction to connect to people in a very real way. She writes about ugly things authentically and shamelessly.

She recently combined her former self-published chapbooks into one collected volume of poetry titled This is How I Die and is currently working on her debut novel For Now.

NEW RELEASE!! Tinsel by Devney Perry ~ Sarah A’s Review

Sofia Kendrick has always cherished her tiara. As the youngest daughter of a wealthy New York family, she’s lived the life of an American princess. But after two scandalous divorces and a breakup smear her name across the society rags, the shine from her crown has dulled. People call her superficial, even gaudy.

She’s nothing more than tinsel.

Desperate for escape and starving for peace, Sofia heads to Montana for a holiday weekend with her brother. But she doesn’t get the relaxing vacation she planned. Instead, she’s put to work in a bar alongside Dakota Magee—a man who does not want her help. A man who is set on teaching her a few lessons about real life and hard work. But Sofia has a couple of life lessons of her own to teach. Like how to fall in love.

Amazon | B&N | iBooks

Tinsel was a bumpy, often heartbreaking ride, but so very worth it.  Devney Perry consistently surpasses any and all expectations I have for her, and this book once again left me completely in awe of her storytelling abilities.  Sofia and Dakota’s story was intense and painful, and also incredibly cathartic and full of love and healing.

The first introduction to Sofia was rough, both in this book and in the first book in the series, Tattered.  She seemed so superficial and self-absorbed, it was hard to see how there was going to be anything likable about her.  However, as the story progressed and we learned how little she knew herself, how little she respected herself, and the whys of how Sofia had become the person she was before her fall from grace, it became easier to love and care for her.  She may have been financially privileged, but she’d grown up lacking a lot of other things she needed and had sought them out in damaging ways.

Dakota, at first blush, seemed like he couldn’t have been more different than Sofia, but as we got to know more of his story, they were much more alike than I could have guessed.  Both of them desperately wanted love and acceptance for who they were, regardless of what their families expected from them.  Dakota had a much harder time finding the balance between his happiness and his family’s unfair expectations.  His struggle was heartwrenching, but ultimately he discovered what was best for him and watching him take that journey was lovely.

Tinsel is the fourth book in Devney Perry’s Lark Cover series.  The books in this series are interconnected standalones and can be read independently.  There are appearances from characters in the other books throughout the series, but nothing that spoils previous storylines or takes away from the experience of this book.  Tinsel is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Sofia and Dakota.

Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.

So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.

But for their daughter.

Willa Doon has always been shy. Her quiet demeanor was something she’s always embraced. That is, until Jackson Page moves to town. The one man she desperately wants to take notice struggles to remember her name.

Year after year, Willa stands by, watching as the bartender slash playboy drowns his demons in beer and sex. Then one night, he shows up at her door, suddenly aware that the girl he’s seen around Lark Cove is now a beautiful woman.

Except what he doesn’t remember is that this visit isn’t his first. They spent a night together once before. A night he’s forgotten, thanks to a bottle of tequila.

A night that crushed a timid girl’s heart, and set a broken man on the path to heal them both.

NOW AVAILABLE!! Boyfriend for Hire by Kendall Ryan ~ Sarah A’s Review

I’m the guy you call when you need to impress your overbearing family, your boss, or your ex. Yeah, I’m a male escort, but not just any escort, I’m the escort. The one with a mile-long waiting list and a pristine reputation that’s very well-deserved.

I’m the guy who’ll make you feel beautiful, desired, and worshipped . . . all for a steep price. I’m hired to make you shine, and I always deliver.

I’ll be whatever you want me to be for one night—except my true self. This is just a job, a role I play to earn a paycheck.

But I’m not the guy who falls for a client. Not once in six years.

And then I meet Elle. Her friend has hired me to escort her to a wedding, but Elle doesn’t know we’re just pretending.

There’s a fire between us I never expected. A connection I haven’t felt in so long. One kiss, and I’m losing all control.

But what will happen when she finds out who I really am?

Amazon | B&N | Apple | Kobo | Audible

Boyfriend for Hire may be one of the most unexpected Kendal Ryan books I’ve read.  I came in fully prepared to hate Nic for his life choices, to feel like Elle was a doormat who couldn’t fend for herself in the real world, but I was completely wrong, and I am so happy for that.  Boyfriend for Hire was one of the sweetest stories I’ve read in a long time, and I definitely misjudged the tone and tenor of it.

I was most impressed with Nic.  He was so much more level-headed and sentimental than I could have ever imagined.  To take a sentiment from Elle, he was the perfect boyfriend, straight out of the pages of a romance novel.  And, as much as I loved how kind and caring he was with Elle, some of my favorite interactions happened between Nic and one of his clients, Esther.  He was so incredibly considerate, and it felt like there were true feelings of concern and companionship between the two of them.

Elle was a little more fickle a character for me, not that I didn’t find great love for her, I just often felt a bit of a disconnect with her, which I’m sure was more because of me than her.  I never quite understood why she made some of the decisions she did concerning her career, and a little her past relationship.  I would have loved to have had more insight into that part of her life, as I think it would have helped paint a clearer picture of how she’d become the person she was in Boyfriend for Hire.

Boyfriend for Hire was a short, sweet read and I enjoyed every second I spent reading it.  Elle and Nic were adorable and seemed to have great chemistry, so I was happy to see them figure out their relationship and the things they were able to overlook and forgive concerning past life choices.  Kendall Ryan did a fabulous job with this book, and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the other men we met in Boyfriend for Hire.

A New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author of more than two dozen titles, Kendall Ryan has sold over 1.5 million books and her books have been translated into several languages in countries around the world. She’s a traditionally published author with Simon & Schuster and Harper Collins UK, as well as an independently published author. Since she first began self-publishing in 2012, she’s appeared at #1 on Barnes & Noble and iBooks charts around the world. Her books have also appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists more than three dozen times. Ryan has been featured in such publications as USA Today, Newsweek, and InTouch Magazine.

NEW RELEASE!! Luck of the Devil by Meghan March ~ Sarah A’s Review

New York Times bestselling author Meghan March continues the story of ruthless, calculating billionaire Jericho Forge in Luck of the Devil.

My poker face has always been one of my greatest assets, along with my grit and determination. I was beholden to no one. Asked permission for nothing.

Then Jericho Forge took my life by storm.

I traded my freedom for something infinitely more precious, but I didn’t realize he was holding an unbeatable hand.

Now, all I have to do is survive the high-stakes game that is my life—with my heart intact.

But not falling in love with Forge? That will take the luck of the devil.

Luck of the Devil is the second book of the Forge Trilogy, and should be read following Deal with the Devil. The Forge Trilogy concludes in Heart of the Devil.

Amazon | B&N | Apple | Kobo | GooglePlay

Luck of the Devil was a great follow-up to Deal with the Devil.  Meghan March ramped-up the intensity of this book, ever so subtly, but with so much hinging on every decision it seemed every step, every choice, every breath the characters took could irrevocably destroy or reinforce the futures they were striving toward.  While I’ve loved each story I’ve read by Ms. March, the Forge trilogy is quickly becoming my favorite.

Throughout Deal with the Devil and for a good part of Luck of the Devil India and Jericho were building a house of cards that could so easily fall and destroy them both, with all the secrets and half-truths they’d been telling.  Once they both realized there was something powerful and rare growing between them, I was exceedingly happy to see them begin to open up, to share their lives and thoughts, to quit hiding behind their secrets.

Jericho and India are both forces to be reckoned with by themselves, once they decided to work together, they were completely unstoppable.  I have no doubt anyone who is working against either or both of them will rue the day they decided to make that choice.  The strength they both show to the world was only complemented by the vulnerability they were beginning to reveal to one another.  Their dynamic was so passionate and consuming; I can’t wait to see how their love story will play out in Heart of the Devil, because I’m sure it’s going to be quite a ride.

Luck of the Devil is the second book in Meghan March’s Forge trilogy.  These series is a continuous tale told in three parts and must be read in order.  There were a few guest appearances from characters in her other novels, but it is not necessary to have read those books to understand what is going on in this one.  Luck of the Devil is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by India and Jericho.

“You can put that man in a suit, but he’ll never be tame.”

One look at Jericho Forge and I knew the rumors were true. He was a predator, and he had set his sights on me.

I knew better than to bet more than I could afford to lose that night. I knew better than to bet myself. But desperation leads to bad decisions, and I thought there was no way I could lose.

I was wrong.

Now I have no choice but to make a deal with the devil.

Making the jump from corporate lawyer to romance author was a leap of faith that New York Times, #1 Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Meghan March will never regret. A nomad at heart, she can currently be found in the woods of the Pacific Northwest, living her happily ever after with her real-life alpha hero.

NEW RELEASE!! Lust by Ker Dukey ~Sarah A’s Review

I am Lust.

***  AVAILABLE IN KINDLE UNLIMITED  ***
Amazon

Lust was an interesting and excellent way to set up this series.  Ker Dukey did a superb job of setting up this world of secrets, lies, and blackmail and also gave readers a sweet love story.  Lust was heavy on the world setting and light on the romance, but it was appropriate for the first book in a series that seems like it is going to be very intricate and intense.

Rhett and Chastity’s love story took a backseat to all the other things going on in Rhett’s life.  I would have loved to have seen more of them, but I think taking the focus off his family dynamics, his struggles with grief and guilt, and his desperation to do anything he needed to ensure the future he wanted would have watered down his story.  So, while Lust is technically a romance, it’s not the focal point of the book.

I had a hard time liking Rhett several times while reading, but he seemed to have a hard time liking himself, so it seemed intentional. Rhett grew and healed a lot from the prologue to the epilogue – thanks in large part to Chastity and her being a safe, soft place for him to land.  No small part of his healing had to do with the brotherhood he was forming with the other members of his Elite class, though.  It was good to see Rhett find two incredibly different but equally necessary support systems when he so desperately needed them.

I have a few wishes for Lust, most of them have to do with incomplete storylines, even knowing this is the start of a series.  The storylines were specific to Rhett, and I can’t see how – or why – they would be revisited further into the series, so I felt unfulfilled in terms of those.  Of course, there are a few storylines that will naturally continue as the series unfolds and I am happy with those being open-ended, as it leaves me anticipating the next book.

Lust is the first book in the Elite Seven series.  This series is a collaborative effort from seven authors, each taking on a separate sin and hero.  These books, while each focusing on a different main character, will tell one cohesive story and must be read in order.  Lust is written in first-person perspective, narrated by Rhett.

I am Pride.
