Breathless by Willow Winters ~ Sarah A’s Review

From USA Today bestselling author W Winters comes an emotionally captivating and thrilling, romantic suspense.

Her lips tasted like Cabernet and her touch was like fire.
I was blinded by what she did to me. I so easily fell for something I thought I’d never have.

I was weak for her and should’ve known better. I should’ve known she could never love a man like me.

She brought out a side of me that I wish had stayed dead.

I won’t make the same mistake twice.

I don’t care how much she begs me.

I don’t care that I crave her more than anything else…

I, honest to God, have no idea what to say about this book. Or how I feel about it, for that matter. It was intense, more so than its predecessors I think. It was violent and crazy and devastating. It shattered my heart, so many times because I hated what the life these characters were living in was doing to their relationships.

While Breathless is maybe the most important book in Aria and Carter’s story, to date, it wasn’t my favorite. It was hard to read because the tension between them was so high and I could feel it all coming to a head. However, we got to see a lot of the core who they both were because the situation they were in allowed us to see a little of Carter’s vulnerability and Aria’s strength. It was good to see both since up to this point we’ve mainly seen Carter as an unrelenting, soulless jerk and Aria as a terrified, broken sub to Carter.

While the previous two books in this series built the dynamic between Aria and Carter with the animosity between their families (and gangs) the foundation on which their relationship was established, Breathless was the opposite; it used their relationship as a canvas on which to paint the war that has broken out between the gangs of their city. It was an interesting change of pace and ramped up the suspense and tension to a fever pitch. It also served to show, in many ways, that not only is there a fine line between love and hate, but often there is more at play in both than the sides you counted on in the beginning.

Breathless is the third book in Willow Winter’s Merciless series. These books are a true series, one story being told in multiple volumes, and must be read in order. There are a few other tie-in books, Possessive and A Kiss to Tell, that give some insight into the dynamics at play in Carter’s life. Breathless is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Carter and Aria.

Willow Winters is so happy to be a USA Today, Wall Street Journal and #1 Contemporary Bestselling Romance Author. She likes her action hot and her bad boys hotter. She certainly doesn’t hold back on either one in her writing!

Willow started writing after having her little girl, Evie, December 2015. All during her pregnancy with Evie she continued to read and she only wanted to read romance. She was reading a book a day — sometimes two.

In January 2016 Willow was staying up late with Evie and just thinking of all these stories. They came to her constantly so she finally sat down and just started writing. She always wanted to do it so she figured, why not? Today Willow cannot be happier for making that decision!
