SPOTLIGHT REVIEW – Iniquity by Amy A. Bartol

Iniquity CoverI gasp as my body curls toward Brennus like a flower to the sun, for the pleasure of it. He holds me close to him. His nose grazes the length of my neck. He breathes me in. I feel the roar and rush of my heartbeat. I’m his toy; his energy streams into me. He winds the invisible key in my back and the euphoria ratchets and coils inside of me: tick…tick…tick…

Another wicked surge of energy flows from him into me. Pain. Pleasure. Bliss. My jaw unclenches as my lips part. I make a small, breathy sound as we dance. Brennus responds with something close to a growl. “Ye’re killing me, mo chroí,” he murmurs. His hand moves down my back infusing me with a golden glow of power. My wings punch violently from me, tearing a hole in my day dress. They spread wide, like a red stain beyond my pale skin. I’m dancing now for the thrill of it. I follow his lead.

As the song comes to an end, Brennus kisses my throat. He whispers in my ear, “When ye get back, come find me, mo chroí. I’ve healed ye…now wake up and banjax whoever banished ye here…”

Iniquity is the EPIC and UNFORGETTABLE conclusion to my all-time favorite series. I have never encountered a series that resonated with me like The Premonition Series. If you follow my reviews, you know that I was seriously hesitant to entertain the fantasy/paranormal genre prior to starting this series. Let it be said, that my apprehension was laid to rest. Whether that is solely the work of this author is yet to be determined. But Amy Bartol made me believe there are journeys worth taking and preconceived notions about genre should never hold me back.

This book is the culmination of the battle of good vs. evil revealed in book 1 of the series, Inescapable. There are new characters to hate, new creatures to make you cringe and twists you could not possibly have seen coming. The WOW Factor is colossal and I applaud Amy for the countless gasps, shivers, and heart pounding emotions I endured throughout this book. EPIC does not even come close to being an accurate description for the surreal experience of Iniquity.

Evie has endured challenges and heartbreak throughout her journey. But she has matured, overcome and grown exponentially. At this apex of her evolvement you will find an amazingly dynamic creature full of unsurpassed passion and a penchant for kicking ass. She is the epitome of a true heroine and I am in awe of the compassion, dedication and courage she displayed.

I could spend countless hours talking about all the males of this series but I don’t want to give anything away. Suffice it to say there will be plenty of Russell, Reed, Brennus and Xavier for everyone as the battle for Evie’s forever comes to a head. And for those of you who love Da Fellas like me, you’ll get a dose of dem as well.

This book effectively wraps up the majority of the conflict encountered throughout the series. While Evie’s forever is solidified, there is some ambiguity in the ending that is loaded with possibility and that just makes me giddy with anticipation. I am sad this series is over as I am not ready to leave Evie’s world. But I am excited for whatever Amy has in the works.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I’m writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they’re real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I’ll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter…and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my “writing uniform” consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. And they smile at my nerdy bookishness whenever I try to explain urban fantasy to them. In short, they get me, so they are perfect and I am blessed.
