Spotlight Review – Sustained (Legal Briefs #2) by Emma Chase

ALP Synopsis1
A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.
When you’re a defense attorney in Washington DC, you see first-hand how hard life can be and that sometimes the only way to survive is to become harder. I have a reputation for being cold, callous, intimidating – and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don’t work for me – I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will get you off. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming – and I don’t pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room and am knee deep in a damn compost pit.
Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be hard, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.
And that – that I know how to do.

A heartwarming story about life, love and the value of family as told through the eyes of one charming attorney. It’s sure to amuse you with its stimulating banter and capture your heart with its enchanting characters and touching story.

Jake Becker is full of charisma and a self-proclaimed bachelor. But beneath that non-committal exterior is a kind soul with a penchant for wayward children and a heart of gold. I am completely smitten with Jake and subtle way he maneuvered himself into the lives and hearts of Chelsea and the children. While I wanted to wring his neck a few times, he ultimately won my heart.

I admired Chelsea’s determination, dedication and the love she had for the children. Her life was completely changed in an instant and the way she rose to the challenge was nothing short of extraordinary. As child number five of seven, I had a sincere appreciation for all that Chelsea took on with her nieces and nephews.

This is the second book I’ve read from Emma Chase and she has quickly worked her way into my list of favorites. The characters were likeable, the story was engaging and the organic feel of the writing made for a pleasant reading experience. I am anxious for the final installment in the Legal Briefs series, Appealed, which is due to release November 17th.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

By day, Emma Chase is a devoted wife and mother of two who resides in a small, rural town in New Jersey. By night she is a keyboard crusader, toiling away the hours to bring her colorful characters and their endless antics to life. She has a long standing love/hate relationship with caffeine.

Emma is an avid reader. Before her children were born she was known to consume whole books in a single day. Writing has also always been a passion and with the 2013 release of her debut romantic comedy, Tangled, the ability to now call herself an author is nothing less than a dream come true.
