120 days… The average number of days someone stays at Last Resort.
17 weeks. Surrounded by love, laughter and support.
4 months more time than they had before they walked through the door.
Real estate developer Ethan McGregor’s life was changed forever when his younger brother told him he was dying of cancer. Ethan was ready
to do whatever it took to save Evan, but Evan had other plans.
Samantha Truman runs the privately-funded Last Resort. Watching her parent’s drive and determination to live longer than the doctors gave them was the inspiration for the resort. It is her heart and soul–she lives to make sure that each day is precious, and one more sunrise or sunset can make all the difference the guests at Last Resort need.
After finding his brother’s journal, and discovering more about Last Resort, Ethan is determined to find out if this place is one of those “too good to be true” places that turn out to be a scam. But he was not ready for Samantha Truman, he was not ready for everything to change, for his point of view in life to be so incredibly altered, for the world to turn its axis. There are, after all, some things Ethan can’t control, who to fall in love with is one of them.
How much can change in 120 days?
I absolutely loved 120 Days by M Stratton. This is a beautifully written book about cancer that also has real life stories intertwined within. This book had me hooked from the very first page and I loved the emotional rollercoaster it took me on.
Ethan is a hard working man who built his business from the ground up and never takes time to enjoy life. His parents were killed when he was young and he was left to take care of his younger brother. He is completely devastated when his brother Evan comes to his office to tell him that he is dying of cancer and he wants to spend his last days alone. After Evan’s funeral, Ethan is given a journal that Evan wrote in up until his final days. He finds out that Evan spent his final days at a place called Last Resort where he did lots of fun things everyday that helped him enjoy the little life he had left. Ethan decides to visit last resort to find out what the place is really about. What will happen when he finds himself never wanting to leave as he gets close to the owner and the other people living out their final days there?
Samantha started Last Resort after she lost both of her parents to cancer. She knows how important those final days are so she tries to make the residents happy and grant some of their final wishes. She wants them to be somewhere that they feel comfortable when they finally leave this Earth. She stays with the residents and hold their hands until they take their final breath. Sam has never been one to take time for herself and spends all of her time at Last Resort. When Ethan comes to work there he is able to get her to take time for herself. The more they spend time together the stronger their feelings for another get. Will Samantha be able to let herself get involved in a relationship and still manage Last Resort? Will the relationship last when Sam tells him the secret she has been hiding from him?
I loved the deep connection between Samantha and Ethan. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. It was heartbreaking to read all the stories at the end that the book was based on. This is a book about loss, finding love, letting go and learning how to move on in life after tragedy strikes. I highly recommend this book but please have lots of tissues handy because it is a definite tear jerker.
