“This is who I am. This is what I want. Now I need a man dangerous enough to give it to me.”
Graduate student Vivienne Charles is afraid of her own desires—ashamed to admit that she fantasizes about being taken by force, by a man who will claim her completely and without mercy. When the magnetic, mysterious Jonah Marks learns her secret, he makes an offer that stuns her: they will remain near-strangers to each other, and meet in secret so that he can fulfill her fantasy.
Their arrangement is twisted. The sex is incredible. And—despite their attempts to stay apart—soon their emotions are bound together as tightly as the rope around Vivienne’s wrists. But the secrets in their pasts threaten to turn their affair even darker…
Reader Advisory: Asking for It deals explicitly with fantasies of non-consensual sex. Readers sensitive to portrayals of non-consensual sex should be advised.
I really enjoyed Asking For It by Lilah Pace. I was a little hesitant about reading it when I read the synopsis as it includes some dark subject matter. This book does end in a cliffhanger and I am very excited to see where the story goes. This book contains some heavy subject matter so please read with caution.
Vivienne has been through some horrible things in her life and has never told anyone other than he counselor what happened to her. She struggles with the fact that she needs rape fantasy to be sexually satisfied. She tried to get her boyfriend to act out her fantasy but he wasn’t comfortable with it so their relationship ended. One night when she is at a party with her friends the ex is there and in his drunken state he starts apologizing to Vivienne for not being able to satisfy her sexual desires. Jonah overhears the conversation and can’t believe there is another person out there that has the same fantasies as him.
“Even though I still wonder what kind of man Jonah is—even though the roots of his fantasy continue to puzzle and unnerve me—I am already bound to Jonah Marks.”
Vivienne and Jonah agree to a no strings relationship that allows them to live out their fantasies. The lines start to blur as they spend more time together. Things get messy for both of them when people from their pasts come back and start causing issues. Will these two be able to work through the issues and let go of the past or will the past continue to get in the way of a possible future for these two?
I loved the connection between Vivienne and Jonah. The sexual chemistry was off the charts. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
