From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.
Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping some major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…
I confess that Colleen Hoover never ceases to amaze me with her creative genius and powerful words. With secrets and omissions that will keep you on the edge of your seat and a story so intensely emotional you can’t help but be moved, Confess overwhelmed me in the best possible way. From Owen’s brooding silence to Auburn’s sweet innocence, I was enchanted by their attraction and the ease of their connection.
Colleen provided a memorable experience with the unique pairing of the poignant confessions and the exquisite artwork. My first read through was done without the artwork as they were not included in the ARC. While I attempted to picture what the paintings would look like, my imagination did not do justice to the beauty of Danny O’Connor’s work. But during the second read through I was awed by Danny’s artwork and I have a new appreciation for what secrets and confessions might look like through abstract eyes.
The story was a little slow in the beginning. But once it picked up, it REALLY picked up and I could not put it down. I also thought the ending felt a little rushed but the final chapter nicely wrapped up the story. I love that this book reminded me of all my blessings. I love that the confessions were real and while some warmed my heart others filled me with sadness. I love the #ConfessYourTruth trend that has taken over social media as a result of this book. But above all, I love that Colleen Hoover continues to remind me why I refer to her as my favorite author.
