Excerpt

“Welcome to the beautiful island of Mahé in Seychelles! I’m your host, Tom Peters, and you,” says the man in front of us, spreading his arms out wide, “are the handpicked contestants for the premiere season of Date, Mate, Fate: Celebrity Edition.” He pauses for inserted applause. No, really—a crewman standing off-camera holds up a sign that says, “Insert Applause.”

When the clapping has met the appropriate meter level, Tom continues.

“Several faces here, I’m sure you’ll recognize; celebrities from an array of arenas, including sports, the big screen, and even the Olympics have been generous enough to take time from their grueling schedules to join us. And each of them was asked to invite a plus one—anyone—of their choosing, whom we also thank for being here.”

I already feel cramped in my own skin, the endless barrage of cameras and crew filming our every move and reaction in full, intimidating effect. And to top it all off, I’ve just been declared a second-class citizen. Bonus.

I don’t join in on the clapping and whistling; the others’ enthusiasm is far from what I’m feeling. Instead, I burrow deeper into Oakley’s side, shielding my face behind his burly arm and clamping down tighter on his hand. I’m so far removed from my comfort zone, consisting of community college and a job at an off-the-beaten-path truck stop in a Podunk town. But it appears I’ve also landed in a certain circle of hell I’m having trouble comprehending—despite the generous one-week notice.

Whitney’s 4.5 Star Review

When S.E. Hall and Angela Graham get together, hilarity and sexiness are sure to follow! Matched is no exception and I loved every second of this reality TV show turned sexy romance novel.

The premise of Matched: 16 people join a reality show that has paired them with a soulmate. They have to figure out who their ‘match’ is and then try and vote other couples off. Half celebrities and half guests, a few of the pairs are obvious but there are several curveballs thrown in as well.

Matched is told from a single POV belonging to Harlow. She agrees to the show as the ‘guest’ of her professional football player boyfriend, Oakley. After a few years apart, Oakley thinks the show is just what they need to prove they belong together. They are the only ‘couple’ on the show and it doesn’t take long for Harlow to realize maybe they aren’t quite so perfect together.

In true reality TV fashion, we have every personality available. The good girls, the sluts, the jocks, the jerks, etc. I enjoyed getting to know all of the characters through their confessionals and I picked right away those I would be rooting for and those I wanted voted off the show immediately!

Matched was very unique for me, I’ve not read anything quite like it and it was so hard to put it down so I could get some sleep! This is a light read but it will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens. There are some steamy scenes (with explicit sex) but most of the book is simply Harlow trying to come to terms with whether she truly loves Oakley or whether someone else may be her soulmate.

I highly recommend this book, the writing is very good and fast paced. I definitely felt a connection with the main characters and though this book is light hearted, I even shed a few tears during a tough moment or two. Another great project from SE and Angela!
