In case you were unaware there are six of us on the blog. Six. When was the last time you knew two women to agree on anything? Let alone six! So instead of one master list that we all begrudgingly agreed on we have each selected our favorite books of the year. Every list is different, some are long some are short, some are really two lists. Some are ordered and some are just a group of favorites in no particular order. We will guarantee you that between the six of us there is something that you haven’t read and will love. So without further ado, our Best of 2014!!
#8 ~ Rome by Jay Crownover
Coming in at number eight on my standalones is a book that is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone, should you not want to read the entire series.
Rome was beautiful and damaged and just so good. I absolutely loved his story and his broken soul. I quite enjoyed his story of redemption and finding himself in a way that he hadn’t expected.
#7 ~ Deacon by Kristen Ashley
Number seven of my standalones is another book that is part of a series, but can be read by itself, if you so choose.
I’ve got to be honest and tell you I was intrigued by all that was Deacon before this book was released. He was just such an unknown. I’m glad that we got to know him in this book. He was just as hot and amazing as I thought that he might be. Deacon was protective and caring and alpha and wonderful.
#6 ~ Letting Go by Molly McAdams
This book starts out by devastating you. The true sign of an excellent book, in my opinion! My heart hurt, physically ached reading this book. There was just so much pain that leaked from the pages that I could feel it in every word. Getting to witness the healing was amazing.
#5 ~ Above the Noise by Michelle Kemper Brownlow
Above the Noise by Michelle Kemper Brownlow Author is part of her In Too Deep series, but can definitely be read all on it’s own. Though I do suggest reading Gracie’s story because it is incredibly poignant and brings light to an issue not heavily covered anywhere.
Above the Noise was beautiful and tragic. Instead of being all sunshine and roses there was hardship. The book was based in reality. The one we live in. It was beautiful. There were moments I laughed and moments I cried. Both happy tears and sad tears.
#4 ~ Rellik by Teresa Mummert
This book was intense. That’s the best way to describe it. I loved Rellik for all of the reasons he hated himself. He was much more than he thought he was. The secondary characters in the book were amazing too. I can only hope that Teresa sees fit to give them their own stories.
#3 ~ Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan
This is one the best stand alones I’ve read in recent years. Archer’s story is so tragic. He broke my heart with his innocence and heart. He was such a wonderful person faced with incredibly horrific circumstances. His ability to persevere was wonderful.
#2 ~ Cut Too Deep by KJ Bell
Cut Too Deep is definitely not for the faint of heart. It deals with some pretty dark issues, and doesn’t tiptoe around the hard stuff. It pulls more emotions out of you than you knew a book could do. There were times that I was completely livid and times I was bawling so hard I literally could not see well enough to continue reading. When I learned what had happened to Hadley I had an actual physical ache in my chest. The depth of emotion that KJ Bellwas able to write into her book was amazing.
#1 ~ Black Box by Cassia Leo
Black Box is a love story, but it is much more a story of survival. Of hope. Of learning to trust. It is also a story of unimaginable horrors and devastating losses. Of not having the kind of peace, love, and support from the people we need it from the most. But most of all it is a story about the darkness that lives inside of all of us and working to overcome it. Cassia did a masterful job of tearing my heart and soul open with this book then artfully patched them back together.
#8 ~ Give Me Series by Kate McCarthy
This series is suspenseful and fun and has hot rockers. What more can you need? Oh you want danger and hot men in uniform? This has got those too. Do yourself a favor and pick this series up now!!
#7 ~ Eagle Elite Series by Rachel Van Dyken
Hot. Mafia. Bosses. Do I really need to say more? I loved these books. I especially love the internal struggle that the characters go through. There is nothing I appreciate more than some damaged characters learning that they are worthy of more than they ever thought.
#6 ~ Flat-Out Series by Jessica Park
This series was perfectly imperfect. The characters were flawed and awkward and real. There was not one person in the series that was too good to be true. Their stories were tragic and heartbreaking and real. So real. I loved every second of every book.
#5 ~ Playing With Fire Series by Tara Sivec
In case you haven’t noticed a theme in the books I like, I have a thing for protective forces. Be it military, security corps., mafia (that might be stretching things, but they are protecting the family!) or something along those lines. Tara’s Playing With Fire series has that in spades. Military, retired military, and security corps. There is suspense and tragedy and wonderful love stories all wrapped up in between too. If any of that appeals to you, you should check these books out!
#4 ~ The Ruin Series by Rachel Van Dyken
Ah, yes, she has already made the list, but I don’t care. I love this series.
There is tragedy. Lots of tragedy, as well as an overabundance of well-deserved happiness. Above all the characters find their redemption and there is little I love more than that!
#3 ~ The Pieces Series by Jamie Canosa
I cannot tell you how much I loved this series. Jade’s story was tragic in the most horrific ways possible. Kiernan was nearly perfect in so many ways, except the most tragic one. And Caulder, good lord, Caulder. He was everything. Just everything. This series was heartbreakingly tragic and healing and wonderful. A definite must read by Jamie.
#2 ~ Becoming Calder/Finding Eden by Mia Sheridan
This story started slow, I’ll admit, but it was amazingly written and so detailed I felt like I was walking along with the characters at every turn. Add on top of that the hardships and trials that Calder and Eden faced and you have a formula for an excellent book.
#1 ~ The Closer to You Series by A.L. Jackson
Come to Me Quietly has touched me in a way few books do. There is something in the the tragic circumstances from which hope is able to blossom that is completely different from other books with the same themes.AL Jackson is a masterful story teller who was able to put me not only into the heroines shoes but also the heroes. Every second of their pain and loss, their hope and love was mine. It was in me.
Come to Me Softly is a seamless continuation of Come to Me Quietly. There is no time lapse or series of events that happen between the books that we only know about because of flashbacks. We get to see the struggle that happens for Aly and Jared from the exactly where we left off in CTMQ.
These are in no particular order, save my number one.
The Cranberry Inn Series by Author Beth Ehemann.
I was introduced to Brody Murphy by my friend Kaci and I am so thrilled I took her advice.
From his sweet and persistent pursuit of Kacie to the adorable way he was with the Twinkies, I loved everything about Brody. If you have not met this sexy hockey player, I encourage you to do so.
Bang by Author E.K. Blair
Holy Mind F*ck! This is one of those books that I COULD NOT PUT DOWN! It was intense and dark and gritty and full of twists! I required hand holding from my book bestie, Whitney, and I am so glad that she was able to help me get through it. I am anxious for 2015 as we have the next book, Echo, to look forward to.
The Album by Author Ashley Pullo
This was a refreshingly different read for me that both tugged on my heart and made me laugh. These characters struck a chord with me and I am so pleased to have discovered this author.

Livvy by Lori Otto
Livvy (Choisie Book #4) from Lori L. Otto is the final book in the Choisie Series. The series follows the story of Livvy Holland and Jon Scott from teenagers into early adulthood. I absolutely loved watching these characters grow up together.
It’s no secret that Lori is one of my favorite authors. She captured me as a lifelong fan with her Emi Lost & Found Series. The Choisie Series is a spin off from her first series and is packed full of feels as you get to experience the joys of first love through the eyes of Livvy and Jon.
With This Heart by R.S. Grey
With This Heart by Author R.S. Grey is pretty high at the top of my list. RS Grey packed all the things I love into this standalone book that kickstarted my love for this author. I encourage you to meet Beck and Abby SOON!!
From My Review:
This is a story about second chances and choosing to live the kind of life that leaves you with no regrets. It’s about being brave in a scary big world and stepping outside your comfort zone. It’s about first loves, first kisses, and all the other firsts that young love experiences. But above all, it’s about not taking anything for granted.
Crashed (Driven Trilogy #3) by K. Bromberg
This was the EPIC conclusion to Colton & Rylee’s story. It was the Colton we have come to love but it was intense and sweet and steamy and made me love that arrogant man so much more. If you have not yet met Colton Donovan a.k.a. “ACE”, please do soon.
The Seductive Nights Series by Lauren Blakely
The Seductive Nights Series from Lauren Blakely brought a Book Boyfriend by the name of Clay Nichols into my life. He is a dirty talking – suit wearing – alpha male and I am smitten with this Blakely boy.
Lauren was super busy this year giving us new book boyfriends in the Blakely Universe. I have some catching up to do on the series, but 2015 is already looking promising with another Blakely boy in the Seductive Nights Series COMING SOON!!
Chasing Abby by Cassia Leo
Chasing Abby (Shattered Hearts Series #4) by Cassia Leo was the heartwarming conclusion to this series that first sparked my love for Cassia. Abby’s story was beautiful and packed full of emotion.
It’s no secret I am an Adam girl. But let me tell you – grown up Chris Knight is a force to be reckoned with as both a loving husband and doting father. If you have not read this series, carve out some time and prepare for a journey.
All 2014 Colleen Hoover Releases
Colleen Hoover is my favorite author and she gave me three books this year. I am calling it a tie on these books as I can’t possibly choose 1.
Maybe Someday combined reading and music into one UNFORGETTABLE story. This was not just a book – it was SO MUCH MORE and I love Ridge & Sydney.
The Book – The Soundtrack – The Experience <–that sums it up right there.
Maybe Not gave us more Warren & Bridgette – something I was longing for after Maybe Someday. So Colleen graciously gave us this novella and I fell so much more in love with Warren.
Ugly Love – words fail me on how to describe my love for this book. It was unlike anything Colleen has given us before and simply reminded me of why she is my favorite author. Tate & Miles – and the possibilities of the big screen are just icing on the cake for this book.
Patricia’s #1 Book of 2014
I thought long and hard about which book was my TOP book of 2014. So without further delay – my #1 Book of 2014 is…
Bright Side by Kim Holden
This book touched me in such a profound way and even though I was devastated by this story, I was left with such a full heart in the end. The message was beautiful and certainly left it’s mark on me. #DoEpic

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
*** Tie for #1 Book of 2014 ***
The Collector’s Society by Heather Lyons and Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan
I feel like I’m not fangirling appropriately over these two authors and their books. The truth is that both had other books in my top of 2014 list other than these two so I will list those as well:
Clearly, I like the angst which is darn good considering I also loved the Fate Series by Heather Lyons, part of which was released this year. The series starts out YA and ends contemporary (fairly clean, very little sex). This is a fantasy series and deals with ‘real’ people who possess elements of magic. I will forever carry a book hangover from this series and it’s one of my all time worst ugly cries. Please note this series also contains a love triangle.
Rock My Body by Michelle A. Valentine
This is the final book in her Black Falcon series. I fell in love with this series when I read Rock the Heart quite awhile ago. My favorite part of this book is the epilogues where we get to catch up with all of the characters from the series.
After the Rain by Author Renee Carlino
The Journey Home by Kelly Elliott Author
I love all of Kelly’s books but this one is my favorite by her. It was beautifully written and so much deeper than her other books.
Burying Water by. K.A.Tucker (Author)
This was a very emotional story about finding oneself and learning to live again. What would you do if you woke up one day and didn’t remember who you were? How would you move on with your life?
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Colleen is one of my favorite authors. Her books bring out every single emotion and I love that about her writing.
Fragile Bonds by Sloan Johnson
I work in healthcare so I completely understand the connection between Melanie and Alyssa throughout this book. This is a very emotional story about living life to the fullest, love, loss and second chances.
Please have a box of tissues handy when you read this book!
My #1 books of 2014 are actually a series of books.
The Ever Trilogy by Jasinda Wilder
This series has stuck with me since the day I finished the first book in the series which is titled Forever and Always! The second book is titled After Forever and the third one is Saving Forever.
This series took me on quite an emotional rollercoaster. There were times when I was reading that I wanted to throw my kindle. Sometimes the characters made some really stupid decisions but in the end everything turned out so beautifully.
Cade and Ever are two of the strongest characters I have ever read about. They both went through some pretty horrible experiences but their love for each other got them through.
#1 ~ Forever Ours & Chasing Abby by Cassia Leo
When I joined the book world I found The Shattered Hearts Series by Cassia Leo and fell in love. This year I read Chasing Abby and Forever Ours. Both are great.
Forever Ours is the prequel to the series, it came out this year. I’m glad that the new people to discover the series get to start with this book. I was a die hard Team Adam girl until this book and it brought me over to Team Chris. His love for Claire goes above and beyond.
Chasing Abby is the ending of the series and what an ending it is. I laughed and cried my way through this book. I didn’t want it to end but I was extremely happy when it did.
Both books left me with glorious book hangovers. Do your self a favor and pick this series up.
#2 ~ Magen McMinimy ~ All Books
The Half Blood Princess series (Book 1 is FREE right now) follows Sophia and her friends. It contains Vampires, Shifters, and Witches. I fell in love with this series and couldn’t put it down. This a complete series.
The Immortal Heart series (Book 1 is FREE right now) is a new take on Fae and Immortals. It has almost every supernatural possible in the series. This is also a complete series.
Twins of Aurora series was fantastic. Once I started I had to have more from her. Because of this series I started stalking, I mean following, her. Her writing style is wonderful and has easy flow. She makes it easy to just get lost in the world that she has you picturing. It was very easy to picture my self as the main characters in her stories.
#3 ~ Vital Sign by J.L. Mac
I have read every book she has put out and this one just spoke to me. Vital Sign is a must read for 2015 if you haven’t read it yet.
This book has so many emotions in it that it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. while reading this I had to stop multiple times just to compose my self.
#4 ~ Being Sawyer Knight & Taming Ryder by Nicola Haken
Being Sawyer Knight was my first and I loved it. Nicola has a way of writing that you almost forget that you are reading about two men. All that shines it the beautiful love story, the passion and the struggles they go through.
Taming Ryder is amazing on its own. Ryder is a strong man but in his own way. He’s cocky but you love him for it.
#5 ~ ‘Til Death Do Us Part Series by Krissy V
Earlier this year I took a chance based on a recommendation from another blogger and fell in love. Krissy V’s has taken the topic of spousal abuse and made you feel what the victim and the abuser are both going through.
I have never read a book quite like this one. In the beginning the only thing I wanted to do was kill Felix my self but by the end of the series I was partially rooting for him. She showed that abuser are not only a product of their upbringing but that it can just the person them self.
Throughout all of the abuse and struggles Tasha never gives up. She pushes through and tries to see the light. She tries to keep her friends and family close through it all.
If you are looking for a great emotional and dark read then this is the book for you.
#6 ~ Love Lost by Maria Desouza
For a debut novel it reads like a seasoned author wrote it. She has a beautiful way with words that lets you imagine you are the main character. Her writing enables you to feel every emotion she portrays.
In Love Lost, Jason and Selene meet only to discover they are both after the same person. Lucio. He is the ultimate bad guy. Tall, dark, brooding, violent and drop dead sexy.
#7 ~ Securing Her Heart by Elizabeth James
All of her books are wonderful but Securing Her Heart is beautifully written and wonderfully heartwarming. You can tell that she poured her heart and soul in to this book.
Jolene and Ryder have know each other forever but she takes off for design school and he joins the military. Everything is going great in their lives and then the flood gates open up and all hell breaks loose. This is a great read that will stick with you and have you wondering what they are up to.
#8 ~ Doubt (The Connected Series) by K.A. Hobbs
Yes the book has a lot of sex in it but this is actually a book that it works in. She has written the kind of book that you could take it out of and it would still get the point across. She is on the way to being a seasoned author.
#9 ~ Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
I know this book is not from 2014 but that is when I finally read it. Many people have read it but those who haven’t need to. Hopeless by Colleen Hoover was an amazing read.
I read this book and couldn’t put it down. This was my first book by her and I plan to read many more. I have not picked up Losing Hope yet but I will. This book was a heartfelt roller coaster in its self so I am afraid to pick it up.
#10 ~ Shy of Tomorrow by S.H. Pratt
In Shy of Tomorrow, the main character is a librarian and she meets her love interest there. Who doesn’t want to meet their man in a library. This book has everything you could ask for in a book funny one liners, sweet and sassy banter and a lot of heart felt emotions. It is the perfect read on a rainy day, day at the beach, by the pool or even just on a lazy Sunday.
