ALP Synopsis

Secrets.
Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

 ALP P's Review

This is an emotional story about friendship, family and love. It’s about embracing life and finding acceptance in a world that can be cruel and intolerant. Bright Side was emotional, compelling, and delivered a powerful message. This is definitely one of my top reads for 2014 and I urge you to move this to the top of your TBR.

Kate was strong and full of compassion. Her optimism was infectious and I admire the determination she showed to embrace her life in its entirety. She left her mark on me and I hope that I can be a little more like Kate. I identified with her in a way that brought back memories of my own childhood. As such, my love for Kate can’t really be put into words.

Keller was incredible. His love for Kate was beautiful and his story touched my heart. He was selfless and gave Kate exactly the kind of love she needed. They were perfectly suited for one another and I am a better person for having witnessed the great love they shared.

Gus was genuine, down to earth, and loved Kate deeply and effortlessly. I had a Gus in my life once and though we drifted apart years ago, I look back on that friendship and smile to have had such a wonderful and caring person in my life, if only for a short time. Everyone needs a Gus in their life.

As I sit here a week after I finished this book, this story and these characters still consume me. My heart is broken and yet it’s full. My eyes still have tears and yet I wear a smile. Do yourself a favor and experience this book. You won’t be sorry, I promise.

Some of my favorite things: reading, writing, the two coolest guys on the planet (my husband and son), my bicycle (my husband built it for me), Facebook (I’m fairly certain it’s an addiction at this point), iced coffee (hazelnut), and music (LOVE the 1975, Dredg, the xx, Haim, Teenage Bottlerocket, and 30 Seconds to Mars). I also love dreaming, which brings me to my next point. I have one bit of advice for anyone reading this … follow your dreams. It’s never too late. Get started today … heck get started RIGHT NOW! I wanted to write a book 20 years ago. Instead I waited. And waited. I should’ve been writing. But I didn’t. I don’t do regrets, because the past is just that, the past. But let me tell you there’s nothing in the world like achieving something you’ve dreamt about for years and years. So, get started. Make your dreams reality.
I love to hear from other readers. Send me a message or find me on Facebook (https://facebook.com/kimholdenauthor) and tell what’s up in your reading world.
